Walmart's PP prices have increased to the point that Mobil 1 is about the same price. Thus I'm wondering how much of an effect this will have on PP's status on this board (which based on my non scientific opinion, is currently the "darling"). I'm wondering how much the price of PP factored into its status.

Thanks

At my Walmarts, PP is listed at $23/gal and M1 is listed at $22/gal. So the PP cost more but I plan to keep using it. I don't like to switch back and forth with different oils and add packs. I say pick a good oil and run with it. A dollar doesn't bother me, even in this economy.

Patience, my friends. Soon you will see PP back at more favorable prices. PP owes all of its success to it's price advantage. Without it, I really doubt that it would have gained much attention.

I don't think PP can ever last toe to toe against M1 where there is no price distinction of merit. If I were a dedicated PP user, I'd be loading up when cheap ..and just sit back and cheery pick when they're up to their eyeballs in the stuff trying to pay the bills by raising the price.

Gary is spot on - dang the prices go all over the place. I look EVERY time I am in WalMart up here in University City in Charlotte and the price lead on PP and M1 changes all the time.

BTW - I had the Pennzoil rep confirm that the Walmart synthetic is from the Pennzoil/Quaker State family of products. The 5w30 stuff lolls around in the clear WalMart bottle like it is water....

I don't believe that is completely accurate. Up here, Super Tech syn is made by WPP.

Same here. Its all Warren.

Well if the price went up like it did about a year or two ago its simple...People stop buying it and the price goes back to what it should be..It happened to them before

The clear ST bottles have WPP stamped right on the bottom of the bottle.

They are stamped with that where I live also.

+1
Everyone knows M1.
That is an advantage of having been around for more than thirty years.
M1 is considered the gold standard by many, BITOG used oil analysis not withstanding.
I use both, and both have been offered at killer MIR deals in the past six months.
Meijer even discontinued PP, and clearanced it for as little as $1.49/qt.
So, as Gary says, stock up when it's cheap, and you'll have plenty to ride out the times when it's dear.

PP is still cheaper then M1 by at least 10 bucks here in Canada. As smokescreen stated its 19 bucks for 4.4l can this week at Walmart. I've got about 10 bottles of PP and 8 bottles of Pennzoil conventional (was on sale for 8.88 for 4.4l at walmart as well for boxing week)

I haven't been in WalMart looking for oil in a while, but I'll pay more for PP than Mobil 1, no problem. As far as the new Darling, I'm betting Castrol Edge will be gaining steam later on this year.

Stores like AAP always seem to have deals on PP with a Pure One filter, so there really isn't much of a need for me to get oil from Walmart. JMO
