believe it or not, our bill is lower than most neighbors. the heat pumps dont work worth a darn when its as cold as the past few months have been. i am very ready for spring

my wife also has long hair and feels the need to use a hairdryer for an hour a day. when i am out of town for work i sometimes wonder if they turn on all the lights and crank the heat up to 72 :-/

I keep tabs on mine as for me it's a game I play with the city-owned power company, which prohibits competition unfortunately. I'll have to check my past years bills.

One thing is for sure: It'll be lower this year. One, because of the insulation work I did during the Winter. Two, because I solved the problems of large gaps over the vaulted ceiling. Three, I replaced all of the worn-out pile weatherstripping on both my windows and sliding glass door. Four, because I'll have my solar water heater back on-line and I live in an all-electric neighborhood. I had to remove the collectors to replace the roof.

I turn the electric backup breakers OFF from now through the Fall. They only come back on during the Winter with extended cloudy weather. The little recirc pump consumes about 35W. Though I don't use much hot water, (no daughters) it still makes a difference.
