Today is my 10 year anniversary at my work. I thought it was typical it was on a weekend and not a work day. Never thought I would be doing parts as long as I have. I started when I was 23, so a lot of people are surprised when I say how long I have been there.

Congrats!

If it's something you enjoy, than it is worth it....

I fully thought I would be wrenching for a living. I still really enjoy working on cars, but fortunately I got out of doing it for a living before I started to really hate it.

congrats man!
it's very unusual for folks our age to stay in one job anywhere NEAR that long.

for me, I'm quickly approaching 19yrs as a register jockey at my local supermarket, started right out of HS.
most people have a similar reaction when i tell them how long i've been at this job. (and believe me, i get it)

definitely not the most glamorous, or well paying job(I'm fond of saying "that's why they pay me the mediocre bucks"), but hey, i'm employed full time, get...decent insurance, and 5 wks of vacation a year.

There's something to be said about staying at a job for a long period of time...benefits DO get better!

It's crazy how fast the years go by. Congrats on 10 years! There is a lot to be said for doing something you enjoy. Wrenching is fun, but really hard on the body.

You seem much older, Wisdom wise, for your age. Enjoy your posts. Congrats for 10 years!

This year will be 20 years at the same job, but the company changed the name/merged twice. I work for the largest private agency for people with disabilities in MO. I kinda feel like earlyre except I get 5 weeks vacation I never get to take. We are always short of staff.

The longest I've worked for one employer is 7 years. I've been with my current employer 8 years...but this is the 3rd time I've been employed by them

Wise man.

Without going into a long-winded diatribe that no one wants to hear, I'll just say that I'm glad I got out of consumer car repair too.

Congrats on the 10 years. If you can do what you enjoy, while getting paid too, well then you have it made.

Congrats, I worked at a Ford dealer as a tech 35 years ago and the parts guys seemed to like there work.
I am now in my 34th year at the same school bus fleet as a mechanic/foreman. I only turn wrenches occasionally and still love my job.At 60 I have no desire to retire, I have about 6 weeks a year off and never work over 40 hours anymore so its easy money.

Yep, still working as a mechanic at 63, no desire to sit at a desk or tell other people what to do. I fix things, I can't stop it.

I wanted to be a gunsmith...Barry Unsworth was Premier of what's now my state and I reconsidered.
Wanted to be a mechanic...took a year off after highschool, and worked as a pump attendant to get some dough, and watch some of the best mechanics in the city get abused.

Chose a different path, and got my employee number on Jan 28th 1988...

The local Ford dealer has a total of two parts men. They've been there since Adam and Eve.
The same dealership also has a complete turnaround on their techs about every 3 years.

I am 33 and I worked at my last job for 10 years. I switched companies a while back in the same field so it feels like one long employment. When I tell people I've been in the business 13 years they dont believe me. Everyone thinks us young folk can't keep a job
