ok i bought a 7.3l turbo diesel 99 f350 . it has a k&nn cold air intake . i read how k&n air filters kill turbos in these. so i did some looking found a napa gold 6440 moddified it a little fits right in the 4" opening, sealed it up with some silicon to make sure there are no leaks at the connection. this filter is built extremely well with a internal and external wire cage no way it will collapse. was for a 97 and up 6.0 7.4 6.5 turbo diesel for chevy. just putting this out there for anyone that might be in the situation i was.

i will cut away the silicone and reseal it whenver i replace the filter creates a little extra work .. took me about 10 minutes total so not too bad.

Napa 6637 this is also known as a tymar intake or a DIY intake. I suggest the 6637 filter and a slightly larger intake tube. The filtering is awesome and the3 capacity is very good and your turbo will come to life. Don't be suprised if you run into a little compressor surge under load. Youll love the Wooosh when it shifts.

if you need some pics of my setup with the same sized filter but i use a AFE filter instead of the napa or wix 6637 just let me know.

yeah that would be cool to get some pics.

you cant clamp it down because it doesnt have a flange to clamp

just did some reasearch looks like the 6637 will match up with no modifications . wish i would have known that sooner .. i know for next time now. the 6440 is a 250 cfm filter the6637 is a 425 cfm filter .. i looked at the stock filter is is a 650 cfm filter it is a flat filter too

thanks for those pics. how much is that afe filter? would you recommend that or the napa gold wix filter?

The afe flows roughly 780, the big plus is the 6637 is roughly 40.00 and the AFE is about 100.00, BUT you never need to replace the AFE.

ok.. thanks for the info.. you think there will be much difference in performance in the wix or the afe. leaning towards the wix cause i dont want to clean and oil.

Performance wise yes. I consistantly see and increase of 3-5lbs of boost between the 2. It really needs cleaned and oils about every 25k. Either way is good, the AFE will flow about twice what the 6637 does and in the long run be less expensive.

Is your trucked tuned and do you have other mod plans?

its got exhuast with stacks. has a tuner also i think is a ts 6 position tuner. run it at 40hp pretty much all the time. more concerned with filtering that a few extra h.p. wonder how the wix and afe compare

paper is always better then wet gauze in the filtering dept. Sounds like the 6637 will be what your looking for. You will like......It sounds really good

No problem bud, if you ever have PSD questions just let me know.

Also the air intake sensor is a dummy sensor on the 7.3. You will just need to tie it up out of the way with the new filter

what kind of ocis you running with your baldwin oil filter and redline. i was just gonna run the motorcraft oil filter and motorcraft 15w40 for 5k mile ocis. cheap and from what i can gather these are both excellent products.

I run 5k, but my situation is much different then yours. My mod list is VERY extensive and fueling is massive with hybrid 250cc injectors. It's mainly a toy that makes trips to NHRDA events here out west.

the same setup you could run 12k pretty easy. I'm not a big fan of the Motorcraft filter for the 7.3. If I were you I'd run mystic JT-8 15w40 orielys out here carries it. run it 10K with a good filter like a baldwin or M1

i ran a 16.20 at firebird with my tuner set at 140h.p. have a limited slip rear with 4.10s but still smoked the tires, could maybe ran mid 15's if i could hook up a little better . not bad for a 4 door long bed f350 dually.
