Agreed.

Even if it was not set correctly, they're still a fine carb and can be made to run very well.

No, he got banned for going off on a tangent and cursing profusely.

The Mark VIII fan does move a bit more air than the 3.8 Taurus fan, but it's not a huge difference. Either one still moves some ridiculous (like 4000+ cfm) amount of air on high speed.

Having owned both fans, I will say there is a pretty significant difference. However, both are MASSIVE improvements over any of the aftermarket fans and will keep pretty much anything cool.

I can't remember offhand, but I know the blades are different (18" vs 16", I think) between the 2. Do you know how similar the motors are? If the mark VIII motor is stronger, maybe I can swap it into my Jeep fan...

Once either of those kicked on high, they would send my car right back into open loop, before they had a chance to switch off!!

I don't recall, I'll have to take a look. I have the one on the Capri (Taurus fan) and the other on the Lincoln (Mark VIII). The Lincoln is in storage right now, so unfortunately I can't just pop out to the garage and check.

Let's put it this way:

I don't even have the high side of the Mark VIII fan wired in on the Lincoln. There's no point. It essentially has a slightly warmed up 302HO in it (Explorer intake, E-cam, 1.7 roller rockers, milled E7's, more compression as it was a non-HO shortblock with E6's originally so it has flat-tops..etc) with the stock rad, and that fan, with a controller set to kick the fan on at 185, and it has a 180 T-stat, will only run the fan for 30 seconds or so MAYBE in the dead heat of summer.

It is a simply ridiculous fan. If you are standing beside the car, near the doors (this is an '89 Town Car) and the fan kicks on, you will feel a huge rush of hot air (and whatever is on the ground, dirt, dust sand...etc) hitting your legs coming from underneath the car. And this is on LOW!!!!!!

I would put a timing light on this and see where you are. See if the timing advances with rpm. Some times the mechanical advance can get stuck. Looks like the dist is tough to open up an make sure it will advance.

Sitting in traffic with the e-fan on low for A/C in the Jeep, unless it's 100* or more, it'll stay pinned to the 195* t-stat temp. At 105* in baking sun with the A/C blasted, the fan on low held it to about 200* or just over. The only time the high speed has ever been used was when the low speed sensor died. On high speed, the 150a alternator can't keep up at idle

When the high speed kicks, it actually bogs the engine a little from the startup surge.

Put a 185 thermostat in there, and it should be great unless there are other problems in the cooling system.

Your timing chain may have stretched, with commensurate ignition timing advance loss.
Double check these two important systems.

The timing chain is going to stretch that much in a short time?
"The motor has around 5 to 7000 miles on it"

This is the time that a timing chain wears/stretches the most!
And ignition timing can change anytime, for all sorts of other reasons.

Maybe 2-4 degrees more igniti0n advance is all you need!
