North Korean warship heavily damaged during ceremonial launch

Not sure what the deal is where they're calling it a "side launch". I guess where it was pushed off the dock (I guess it's called a slipway) rather than built in a drydock that then gets flooded to launch. This was the example I found of what it's supposed to look like when successful:

During a launching event at the northeastern port of Chongjin on Wednesday, the newly built 5,000-ton-class destroyer became unbalanced and was punctured in its bottom sections after a transport cradle on the stern section slid off first and became stuck, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
KCNA didn’t provide details on what caused the problem, the severity of the damage or whether anyone was injured.
According to KCNA, Kim, who was present at the ceremony, blamed military officials, scientists and shipyard operators for a “serious accident and criminal act caused by absolute carelessness, irresponsibility and unscientific empiricism.” Kim called for a ruling Workers’ Party meeting slated for late June to address their “irresponsible errors.”
In a very rare move, the incident was quickly confirmed by North Korea, perhaps in an effort to get ahead of the news cycle once satellite imagery of the warship put any question about what had happened beyond doubt.
Pyongyang’s state-run KCNA news agency provided the following details of what happened:
“Due to inexperienced command and operational carelessness, the parallel movement of the bogies could not be guaranteed, resulting in the launching sled in the stern detaching first and causing the ship to capsize. The ship’s balance was destroyed due to a rupture in the hull in some sections, and the bow section was unable to detach from the keel.”

The ship is apparently on its side now and partially covered with tarps where it's grounded on the dock.

There's a video from the Korean Navy with someone explaining that you don't side launch a ship over a certain tonnage especially if it has weapons on top of the deck. This is what happens when you do. Unfortunately this specific shipyard has only built small tugboats and fishing boats nothing remotely close to a 5,000 tone Navy Frigate. All I know that if I was involved I'd be on the first flight or train to Shanghai or Beijing as the four individuals arrested are most likely hosed.

To be fair, we did leave $7 bill worth of equipment in Afghanistan, $70mil is a reasonable loss lol.
When you are defeated and have to run away quickly, things like that happen. It's cheaper to leave than spend the logistics costs to evacuate like what happened in Vietnam or Lebanon.

Plus, you always need to restock with fresh equipment to maintain good paying jobs.

Agreed so I'm not convinced that the video is of the actual accident launch. There are satellite photos of the aftermath showing the ship on it's side with one end on dry land which would be a more plausible outcome of a bogie at one end malfunctioning

They covered the ship with blue tarpaulins to try and hide it.

This was shown on a couple of websites. The rear slide broke free while the front was stuck causing the ship to swing around and ultimately list onto its side.

Some of the talk is that they had help from China and Russia, at least regarding the ship’s design and construction. Not sure about the side launch though.
Saw a video analyzing why and the reason being their main ship builder for military use was already busy building something else so this fishing vessel builder was used, and they can only have enough space to side launch it unless major update was done. This was high risk but they are poor so they took their chances.

Three people have been arrested . I think we know how that will end .
They will just sacrifice someone they don't like to begin with so they won't dare to challenge the system. Happens all the time in politics. There was a news broadcast going around YouTube that said Kim the 3rd will give them 1 month of time to "fix it" as a condition for pardon, and military commentator says they probably should use this 1 month to develop an escape plan to run for an amnesty in the enemy countries.

The highest crime one can commit under regime rule, especially a communist regime, is to make it look bad and/or incompetent.

I agree with the above comment that anyone even remotely connected to this project should try to escape, as there will be no pardons. Many people, innocent people will suffer and probably die for this mishap.

We weren't defeated in OIF/OEF and especially not in the fashion like Vietnam. The issue was politicians putting their dirty hands into everything and extending the wars into an occupation so they can line their dirty little pockets instead of letting the military do what it does best.

Considering we were supposed to withdraw in 2011 2012 2016 and literally left the Taliban with better equipment than what we get to train with in garrison.

$9 Billion of equipment left. Meanwhile the entire Battalion gets to police call a forest because one LCPL lost his PEQ15.
