I love the mountain areas of NC and VA. Absolutely majestic. Except for the trailers... ;-)
But I have to say there are nooks of spectacular beauty everywhere, just have to find them. The Ozarks of Arkansas, for example. Making me want to hit the road!

Yes, I was definitely on the Interstates.

My observations were not meant to reflect any particular "condition" of a given state, just what I saw driving through them. The Interstate portion of NC was much nicer.

I've been wanting to take a road trip lately.
PA had some crazy pot-holes (one so big, I thought I bent a rim!!!!
). But NYS had bizarre frost heaves in the roads, far worse than the ones we have in Ontario and they were seemingly perpetual.
81 through PA is the WORST road I've driven on. Far worse than roads in NYS ... which, in itself, says a lot.

Did you hit the Blue Ridge Parkway? It takes you through God's country on the the most excellent roads for fast wheels. No commercial vehicles are allowed on this 755km stretch of twisties that spans a mile in altitude.

Most of I-95 in North Carolina doesn't paint a very nice picture of the state. But like Virginia, North Carolina is one of the few states that has many miles of beaches, a great piedmont region, and excellent culture in the Appalachian/Blue Ridge mountains.

I grew up in Chapel Hill, and my parents still live there. It is a nice town, though it always seemed boring when I lived there. I had a lot of good times there though. Outside of town there are lots of great country roads to drive on, though development is eating a lot of it up.
Western NC is really where it's at in the state though IMO. The mountains are beautiful. The coast is alright in spots, but can also be overly touristy.

Lol somehow I have a sneaking suspicion hiswife doesn't look out the window and see the M5 and get all "[censored] that car makes me hot" or anything like that so my guess is nil lol. I could be wrong though
