Not sure how I feel about it but since it's going to happen I hope it works. I really loved that movie and one of my favorite parts was the ol' man opening the prize he won. My wife actually purchased the mini version of that lamp for me years ago and every christmas I bring it up and plug it in on the end table, some times I wish I had the bigger one so you could see it from the street.

My stepfather (RIP) loved that movie because it reminded him of being that age during that era.
The original is a terrific movie.
On a related topic, we don't enjoy remakes of "foreign language" movies and TV shows either. The Originals (with Subtitles of course) are generally much better. The remakes are often pale imitations.
The funny part is we often turn up the sound even though we can't understand a word of what's being said. Somehow hearing it louder seems better.

That movie Christmas Story stays on the main living room Tv in the house for 24hours on Christmas eve and Christmas day
at our house.
My two sons and all the grandkids could star in the movie they know it all by heart. We put it on while we are just hanging
out and visiting those days as background noise. LOL. The last thing the wife and I do once all the commotion and the families
are gone is to watch it once from start to finish. That movie plus The Sandlot are almost exact documentaries of how the world
was when I was growing up. It makes me sad that young kids have lost so much of what we had back then. Now a days you can
not even have something akin to a "public ball diamond" where any kids can just show up to meet others and play. Either they
have to worry about drive by shootings or the owner has to worry about being sued if somehting happens. A shame the way
things are going. One of our joys was to start the day combing the town streets for empty soda bottles. As soon as we all had
enough it was off to a local grocery to sell them for the 5 to 7 cents a piece. We were kings of the world walking out of there
with each about $2. Then we proceeeded to all get sick to the stomach when we over did it at the candy and soda machines!
We never learned as the next day we did it all over again.

There was, in fact, a remake made in 1994 called My Summer Story.
While it was written, and as I recall, narrated by Jean Shepard it wasn't up to the standard of ACS. IMO the main problem was the casting. Charles Grodin paled compared to Darin McGavin and the kid that played Ralphie fell far short of Peter Billingsly. If you enjoy Jean Shepard it's worth a watch but not a "classic" by any means.
Edit: I had trouble finding it on IMDB because they changed the title from when I saw it.

Back in the mid-'80s I did shift work in a large telecom manufacturing plant.
I often worked the nightshift with another fellow, and we would talk during break. I guess I'd told him lots of tales of my eccentric parents and strange childhood, because he phoned me at home early one afternoon and said "Hey, get over to my place right away - they made a movie about your life, and it's on TV right now!" (I had an old dying TV with rabbit ears - no cable, and so no access to exotic things like recent movies.)
So I rushed across town to my friend's place and watched most of "A Christmas Story" for the first time. He wasn't wrong.

Never knew of that one. I hear there is a Sandlot II I also missed. There are so many remakes its hard to keep up.
(I'm sure its me and my age) but it got to a point some time back that they do not make any new movies I am into.
I have no interest in all those Marvel Comic movies etc... Some time back I found out they had about 3-4 remakes or
"follow ups" to a movie I liked from years back called Midnight Run with Charles Grodin in the first one. I tried to watch
some of those and they were not up to the original either. I can't think of many remakes that I cared for. I LMAO at
the very first Rush Hour with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker but can't get into the remakes. Same with Lethal Weapon from
years ago or all those Die Hards.... LOL shoulda been Hard to Kill.... I am sure lots of folks like them though.
