My stepfather (RIP) loved that movie because it reminded him of being that age during that era.Not sure how I feel about it but since it's going to happen I hope it works. I really loved that movie and one of my favorite parts was the ol' man opening the prize he won. My wife actually purchased the mini version of that lamp for me years ago and every christmas I bring it up and plug it in on the end table, some times I wish I had the bigger one so you could see it from the street.

Thanks, I didn't know about this, will have to check it out. There was, in fact, a remake made in 1994 called My Summer Story.
While it was written, and as I recall, narrated by Jean Shepard it wasn't up to the standard of ACS. IMO the main problem was the casting. Charles Grodin paled compared to Darin McGavin and the kid that played Ralphie fell far short of Peter Billingsly. If you enjoy Jean Shepard it's worth a watch but not a "classic" by any means.
Edit: I had trouble finding it on IMDB because they changed the title from when I saw it.
Never knew of that one. I hear there is a Sandlot II I also missed. There are so many remakes its hard to keep up.There was, in fact, a remake made in 1994 called My Summer Story.
