Maybe I'm old school, but I like a calendar on the wall, jot down your appointments, etc. But I can't find a free calendar. The local hardware store, the bank, nobody's giving out calendars this year. Anybody else notice this?

When I worked at the service station, back in the '70s, we had two types of calendars we'd give out at this time of year. One was for our regular customers. It was a twelve-page, spiral wound, calendar featuring antique cars in beautifully done pen & ink drawings. The other calendar was for everybody else, it was a single page, year at a glance, scroll type calendar.

Those thoughts reminded me, who remembers Snap-On calendars?

Ah, the times they are a changing. I'd buy a high end calender but I've thrown too many of those out over the years. I just hope I don't end up with a puppies & kittens calender from the dollar store.

Got a couple nice large and free 2016 calendars in the mail. Wyoming Wildlife and CA BLM.

The old hardware store calendars like this one are my favorite, but are getting harder to find.

Oh well puppies and kittens are nice too.

I get a few calendars every year. I do like the shops that still hand out the NSFW calendars. We had a bunch of Motorcraft ones we dropped off to shops and handed out to customers.

My local NAPA had free calendars yesterday when I was in. Our church and local garage also have free calendars.

They went away with the wrist watch, home phone, cameras, and a

slough of other things that smart phones have replaced.

I grabbed two from NAPA in Montana a few weeks ago (free). They are automotive themed. Most insurance brokers in my neck of the woods offer free car themed ones as well. My local speed shop has free automotive themed ones. Where I work, vendors drop them off regularly they are valve / instrumentation / control system themed. I have not noticed a change in calendar availability. However, yes the bikini themed free ones are gone.

While I didn't pick any up, in my area, the free calendars are given out by the liquor and auto parts stores. Of course, they have the girls that are pretty scantily dressed. The one item that was given to me free was an outdoor thermometer that has to be about two feet tall. In big letters, it says on it: "UNDERSTANDING AND SYMPATHETIC SERVICES". It was given to me by the local mortuary home. Perhaps they know something that I don't.

Have noticed the same...I used to get some amazing calendars every Christmas...now I'm in operations, they've all dried up.

I was always partial to the rigid tools calendars. Used to get them at work many years ago.

Businesses are more stingy. It really is a shame.

Flyswatters, calendars, hand fans, pens, pencils, magnets, baseball caps...

Amazing how this stuff is disappearing, I can think of only two places that give out free stuff:

1. Dairy Queen (magnet fridge calendars)

2. xxxx Telephone Co-operative. (miniature calendars with adhesive backing)

Nobody else gives out, not even the politicians.

This free advertising is incredibly valuable, it puts their advertisement RIGHT IN YOUR HOME.

The volunteer fire department of the town I'm in puts out a calendar (spiral bound) with a picture of a piece of emergency equipment for each month.

I send it to a pal in England just because it'll look good, be novel and create chatter wherever it gets hung.

I have a ton of them at work from the maintenance contractors that are still old school and give away calendars to keep their name in sight. Not sure how much business it earns them but keeping a phone number easy to find makes it nice and the calendars do get used.

You do know there is a pattern to calendars, ie: you can re-use them after "a few years", I have a site bookmarked on my other computer that tells you what year you can use this year/ what years this year's calendar can be reused,

If anyone is interested, 2016 matches up to 1988.

I bought a 1988 Land Rover of North America calendar.

Edit: turns out the URL is as simple as this:
