No love for Baldwin filters? Should I be looking for an alternative?

The Microgard shows 99% at 25 microns so right in line with the Baldwin. But at only $12, the Microgard does come in about 7 bucks cheaper than I'm getting the Baldwin so that's a win. The Baldwin B7039 is a 9.8 nominal-27 absolute micron filter. Your best bet on Balwin pricing is order a case of 12 from a local Baldwin Distributor parts store. Baldwin has a nationwide sale on all their filters for one month once a year. As a general rule, if you look up a Baldwin filter on let's say Amazon, you can buy that same filter at a local distributor in your town for about half the Amazon.com price. You may have to go to your local Peterbuilt or Kenworth dealer to get them, they deal a lot in heavy duty and industrial stuff. They have a "where to buy" link on their home page.

Great information on the Baldwin sale. I had no idea.

A local auto parts store has a business relationship with the company I work for. Part of that relationship is employees of the company I work for get discounted pricing at that auto parts store. They carry Baldwin filters and I pay less there than anywhere else I can find them including online.

Look at all the cut open posts. They look beautiful. Every pleat evenly spaced and straight as an arrow.

Add in the holes for the center tube that you don't have to worry about closing up and it's a win win.

I can't believe how clean they keep my oil. At 5000 miles the oil looks practically brand new.

Microgard Select is 15 microns absolute
O'Reilly's shows the Microgard Select filter (MSL51734) for my truck at 25 microns absolute. Is this potentially incorrect information?

If the Microgard Select in my application is actually 15 micron then that is "absolutely" the filter I will use next!

Official efficiency range. I called PGI.

Baldwins are quality-made filters that provide 'good enough, nothing special' filtration. They don't get a lot of attention here because they are boring.
AND you will never see an advertisement for Baldwin filters. I've used them in multiple applications with no issues. I used to buy them at a good price at www.zoro.com. For regular change intervals, the OP should keep on using them.

Baldwin are good filters. Have you checked rock auto? Prices and choices seem like a good place to order from.
I haven't checked Rock Auto although I've used them for other things.

I'm getting the Baldwins right now at a nice price just a couple of minutes from my house.

I've really just been wondering what folks think about the quality of Baldwin and if there are other readily available options with better performance or quality at a reasonable price.

It looks to me like if the Microgard Select filter for my truck truly is 15 micron absolute then that's what I'm going to switch to. The O'Reilly's in my town is a stones throw from the place I currently get the Baldwins from AND the Microgard Select is only 12 bucks. Seems like a no brainier!

Baldwin is very common with equipment.

3k-5k miles on an oil change? Could run no filter and be fine.

Easily double that unless you're running some ultra cheap, low quality oil. Pan holds ~4 gallons for a reason.

Yes all have the same media. PGI XL made filters(10k).
So PGI per the phone call is saying all the filters under them rated to 10K miles (the extended use filters) all have those efficiencies you listed? That's pretty impressive if that's the case. Wonder why MicroGard Select at O'Reilly's didn't advertise it as 99% @ 20u since it would be that if it's actually 99.5% @ 20u.

Did you ask them for any kind of dP vs flow data point with a corresponding oil viscosity? That would be a good piece of info to have. I suspect their dP vs flow is relatively low due to lots of media area.

I didn’t ask about dP and flow. But yes I was very specific with the 10k media question. They mentioned marketing could choose which efficiency to advertise like in this chart. My guess is some want that 99.9% claim vs 99.5%.

So I just grabbed a Microgard Select filter for my truck.

The center tube is louvered instead of having the round holes. Is this fairly standard for the larger filters in a truck application? I've seen other filters for my truck with the louvers, it just seems a lot of folks on this site are quite sensitive to having the louvers and how they are shaped/cut.

Pictures? Never seen a Microgard with louvers. Possibly that particular filter is made by someone else?

Microgard Select should not have louvers. Does yours look like this?
