No F16s flying today over White Sands

On vacation this month and with the grandsons at White Sands National Park enjoying wonderful unseasonably cool weather, cloudy and 75 degrees. It has been over 100 degrees every day this week.

White Sands is home to a major f16 air force base. I hadn't seen any F16s training this morning and couldn't figure out why.

Then it hit me....... It is Friday and the Air Force typically doesn't work after 1200 on Thursday's, and begins working next on Monday.

Maybe the Air Force guys are afraid to fly in the clouds?

Many years ago, I took my two youngest kids to the Trinity site (open twice per year). After a few hours, we went to Three Rivers Petroglyphs and did a bunch of hiking. From there, it was off to White Sands, where they climbed to the top, rolled to the bottom, and repeated this for several hours until they could climb no more. Although you're not supposed to take anything out of the national park, when they took off their shoes and clothes at the hotel, there must have been enough sand to fill a gallon zip-lock.

The next day we went to the space museum at Alamogordo, then up to Sunspot to the solar observatory. We finished our explorations at Carlsbad Caverns before heading back to central Texas. It was a trip they still talk about.

Thanks for sharing the story. We are having like results. We have been at White Sands National Park for over four hours today.. grandsons having a great time in the sand..only incident was they decided to close their eyes and throw sand it each other's face. Their faces still full of sand after I tried cleaning their faces up.

White Sands is a hidden treasure. Super easy to access, zero hassle, no bugs, no dangers, no crowds

Picture is of grandsons having fun just drawing lines in the sand with a shovel. Who would have thought how much fun can be had with just a shovel and a mountain of sand.

We did the space museum last Monday. They liked the space museum , but White Sands a much bigger hit.
