They will not get much on the Saturn. 13 year old vehicle with 200K. Maybe $1000.

Get their own insurance company to do as much as they will do helping them.

Forget about the lawyer. Not worth their rate of hundreds/hour.
 
I'm glad it worked out for them. When I was 18/19 my car was hit by a commercial driver using State Farm and once they found out I didn't have a collision they wouldn't pay. I sued State Farm and ended up sticking them with the fattest estimate possible. It was just shy of being totaled.

Check in hand for $3600, MIL elated as she paid $6800 for vehicle 6 yrs/160k miles ago.
 
So end-result says accumulation of 6Y/160K and paid only $3.2K in the end........ not bad!
Got your money's worth there, provided no real big, out-of-pocket repairs were done along those 6 years.
