That show was incredibly sad. How anyone can sit through an hour of that garbage is beyond me. What really scares me is that today's youth actually found that show entertaining which really says alot about the mindset, and what's actually going on in the heads of the people today.
What does that mean for the future if that is an example of what is entertaining our youth. What does that mean for the younger generations to come and how will it play out for us if that is what inherits what we leave behind, and how will they proceed forward.
Scares me to know the future is in their hands

At least this disaster was limited to a few blocks. It's a high profile few blocks, but still, there should only be a couple hundred people directly affected and nobody died.

Maybe it'll be an earthquake next year.

There were a few buildings that burnt down. All summer all i have heard is how NJ is 'Stronger Than The Storm.' Now what? I had half a block burn down in my town, did you hear any dramatic cries of attention? No. Get over yourself NJ.

That's a shame, it's in our local morning paper here, north of Philly. The paper didn't mention the carousel. Good luck to them on the rebuilding, at least they have some time until next season.

I am NOT a fan of the Jersey Shore it is overpriced particularly North Wildwood so to a very large extent I don't know what New Jerseyans are bragging about with the shore commercials they make me laugh.

We have a pier here on Old Orchard Beach that's burnt and been rebuilt half a dozen times since around 1890. These things happen.

Take a building on stilts, put it on the beach so sea breezes whip under it, and fires go nuts. Add seasonal businesses that may be unattended, never ending buildings without firebreaks, cheezy all wood construction, shellac and laquer on those carousels... kaboom.

Not what they need. They'll rebuild though.

I realize this may have sounded insensitive. I heard the scope and damage of the Seaside Heights fire, it was described as "spectacular."

Still not a fan of most NJ shore points, AC is totally cool with me, if you have money and time to enjoy it... but my condolences to those who lost what they just built.

I have to agree.. Many think they are immune or exempt, this can't happen to us. Like Nevada saying they wont get heatwaves because its always hot.. Not that everyone has ever said that, just trying to make an anaolgy.

JHZR2 how far are you from all this?

Wow really sucks.

I dont live at the shore but spend a good amount of time in certain areas. Boardwalk in Heights was always a little trashy, but it took the real BENNYs and Jersey shore NYers to ruin it for good. Havent been there in years.

Doesnt make sense though as seaside park doesnt have amusements and Kohr's is in Heights, AFAIK.

Sad, we had just talked about going to heights for some boardwalk food and to walk the length (5+ mi from the northernmost end in heights to the southernmost end in seaside Pk), now that the season is over.

Looking at the news coverage no wonder Sandy destroyed the place. it's all right on the beach. All the natural barriers have been removed.

Much of the Jersey shore is barrier island.

Sorry the maps are a little funky, I picked them mostly to show the point.

The sand is constantly moving around. I've seen the beaches grow in Wildwood since when I was young due to nature depositing the sand. And I've seen the sand scoured away from the Cape May area just south of Wildwood. All in my lifetime.

The Jersey shore may have a little "character"

but it's always good to see the ocean.

Hmmm, you mean a Hispanic turned Italian new Yorker that we've had to endure as being associated with our state?

Yeah it's saying to go back to NY or Chile.

God was trying to rid the world of the entire cast of Jersey Shore characters by sending hurricane Sandy, but he missed as they happened to be in Cali at the time.

It was noticeable to me because in coastal North Carolina there are barrier islands. But construction has to be set back behind the dune. Developers hate this of course because the dune could be bulldozed for development. Setbacks and well maintained dunes/vegetation help a lot when the big storms roll in.

A boardwalk is just that - a wooden walkway over top of the sand near the water. Seaside is on a barrier island, and much of the length does have a dune, which they take seriously about keeping people off.

Many of the shore towns (Sea Isle City comes to mind as I was there last Sunday) have a beach, dune, then construction occurs behind that. No boardwalk though. Many other towns (Spring Lake comes to mind as I was there a few days before) have a substantial rise, such that the rise is effectively a dune itself.

Seaside Heights and a few other of the more commercialized places are a bit different in that there is substantial stuff ON the boardwalk, not across a street or set some distance back from the boardwalk/beach.

That said, it is VERY lucrative, and it will be built back. I have to wonder if the current situation was Jewish lightning, but that's for the fire department and insurance to decide.
