I just purchased a used '05 Nissan Sentra with a 1.8L engine. The first thing I do when I buy a used vehicle is change the oil. I was a little confused when I saw the filter that was on the car when I bought it. It is much shorter than the filter I bought to put on. The filter is made by CarQuest and has B4622 on it. I can not find anything about that filter on Google so I have no idea what it is supposed to be used on. Any ideas what the smaller filter is for? Here is a pic.

IIRC, my 1993 and 2001 sentras used the shorty one for 'OEM'. As long as the gasket and threading on the bigger one fit, it's good to go. IIRC, there is room between the block and firewall for a longer filter.

Just go to Wix and punch in those numbers and see what the xref engine pumps out.

Did you get the right filter? I remember older Sentra's used two different engines and each used a different filter. BTW the CarQuest filter you took off has red writing and is their economy line. (CarQuest "Blue" is their premium line) Both are made by Wix.

This is the winner IMO. Use it on my sons 1.8L Factory fit for 2.4L

That 14610 is a Purolator number.

RayH was here a while back mentioning that he uses them on his Hyundai. The correct oil filter IS the little CarQuest filter, the previous owner was creative with the oversize. The filter for your car in Purolator is undoubtedly 14459 in a Purolator. The gasket's a little larger in 14610, but no worry if it fits the filter mounting, and gasket boss.

If the gasket boss on the engine fits the PL14610 PureOne, I'd use it. I intend to for my Hyundai, with 0W30 GC for a Wintertime 10K OCI.

The Car Quest filter is the correct size for the 1.8L. That filter is even the OEM size for the V8 Titan.

Most of us Nissan guys use the larger filter 15208-9E000. It's the size of the one on the right. This size was made for 2000 and older Maximas. It will fit without a problem. So when you are looking up filters, just look for ones for the 2000 Maxima, and call it a day.

Corvette ZR-1 filter might fit and it's HUGE.
Purolator (P)L14459 and (P)L24458 should both fit and, iirc, are a little bigger then the L14610.

Hmmm, I may be thinking of the 14619. Same thread, bypass pressures, but much bigger. Available, too! 14459 IS tiny. 14458 is a little longer, but available no more..

Tx, GTX!

nope, the 24458 is no longer available.
I thought the 14459 was bigger than the 14610 or i'd be using a 14610 in my GTX. but I could be wrong?

ZR-1 filter is a 14619, yes sir.
M20x1.5 thread but the gasket is a little bigger than the other filters.

No bothering to look 'em up, but I'm guessing that the smaller one is the FRAM 6607 equivalent and the larger one is the 7317 or 3593A equivalent.

Still not jumping on the oversized filter bandwagon...

O.k., after I got done changing the transmission fluid in my 2.5l Sentra, I decided to go ahead and change the oil in the '06 1.8l Sentra.

I picked up an L14619 at Advance Auto. It's bigger than the Advance Auto 7317 (the equivalent to the L14610 at the start of this thread.)

If you look closely at the oil filter base you can just make out where the old filter gasket seated. Hopefully giving me just enough room for the slightly larger gasket on the L14619.

So far so good, no leaking as far as I can tell. That puts me up to 3 1/2 quarts in the 1.8l.-

Edit: What a PITA to change the oil in this car. Plus I got a drop of oil in my eye.

Sorry about the oil-eye, but congrats on the 14619. Yeah, I spaced out on the 24458, too. I still have a few of them from a Bitogger that sold em to me via the mail. They simply aren't available anymore.

Makes NO sense. The Premium Plus and PureOne 24458 is the ideal filter size, by-pass pressure and thread for so many imports (and for all I know, some domestics) and yet, they quit making it.

Purolator quit making that size. But, other filter manufacturers still make it.

Several years ago, I tried that ZR1 sized filter in Nissans. I had gasket overlap that leaked. But, I noticed different gasket types(square cut vs round gasket) and sizes among the brand equivalents. I didn't bother trying every brand in that size. I just don't bother recommending that ph3985 sized filter for everyone.

When using a filter with a relatively large gasket, remove gasket from the filter and stick it on the filter mount. If it doesn't hang off the edge, it should work. If it hangs off at all, you risk blowing it out causing a whoopie cushion of an oil leak.

Besides the ZR1 Corvette, another big 20mm is the Porsche 928 filter.

FWIW

Just changed the oil in my '02 Nissan Spec V yesterday with the 2.5L QR25 engine. The Purolator L14619 definitely does not fit this engine. Not enough clearance between the filter boss and the block. To bad.

Sticking with the L20073.
