Nissan oil consumption question

Triple7,

My experience is that these Nissan V6 engines like the 10W30 or above as I have had evaporation/ring sealing indications with the thinner oils.

As for the 5W40's, my jury is still out on the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV in my opinion, as I don't believe it is the same oil as Delvac 1.

This may sound silly, but have you tried the Pennzoil again (the stuff it wasn't using before you switched)? Some oils are consumed by some engines and others aren't. However, it's more than just dino vs. synthetic; It's brand to brand of each type.

I was thinking the same thing. First thing I'd try is switching back to pennzoil and see what it does.

Molakule

Here's a Virgin Butler report on the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W-40.

Mobil 1 T & S 5W-40

Here's a virgin Butler for the Delvac-1 5W-40. These two jugs are not the same oil.

Delvac-1 5W-40

I have the same VQ engine in my Pathfinder. It didn't consume any oil since I have owned it, including Castrol 5w30 blend and Syntec 5w30 and now GC. However, I did do one interval using Redline 5w30 and it consumed a quart in about 5000 miles. After that interval I went back to GC and now consumption at all. I don't have anyidea why yours is consuming oil like it is. I would agree with some of the other comments about the VQ engines that they seem to do better on heavier weighted oils.
