Nissan Matic D vs Dexron III

These two are similar?, for my transmission i used Dexron III but the nissan recommended is Nissan Matic D. The mechanic said that its okay to use Dexron III.

Are these 2 ATF the same?

yeah.......only in the us oil is cheap...for the rest of the world its expensive. A quart of maxlife atf is 70$
 
Matic-D is just gussied up Dex III; nothing special. A syn ATF will probably serve you well with the heat down in the Caribbean.

See if you can find Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage ATF. It's really good Dex III compatible fluid and is certified to be able to replace Nissan Matic-D. I would not use Maxlife in that application. Maxlife is more like Dex VI. It's a thinner viscosity.

And within a few thousand miles Dexron III will be thinner than Maxlife ATF.
