Nissan Juke

My wife just bought a new Nissan Juke with the turbo. The manual specs a regular 5w30 conventional oil at 7500 mile oci for her driving. Should I stick with the conventional?

If she's doing a lot of short trips, the synthetic might be preferable.

In a brand new vehicle I'd always go with full syn. For ten bucks more a jug in your brand new investment its better cold flow, better high temp protection for that turbo, and it will keep that thing factory clean.

I would use synthetic with a turbo in anything. Quaker State Ultimate Durability is like $22 for a jug at Wal-Mart and meets the Honda-Acura HTO-06 turbo spec. I would use a good syn and go close to the 7,500 OCI...

Personally, I would only run Synthetic and a shortened OCI at that depending on the driving style and trips type (and do an used oil analysis to see how hard the engine is being on oil). I just do not turbos and conventional... there is just way to much that can go wrong if the oil starts to fail.

Synthetic makes sense. OP says his wife's driving means a 7500 interval and I would go with that but it makes sense to look for real life experiences or send off for a used oil analysis at say 5000 miles.

There is nothing wrong with using either synthetic or conventional. In fact, most SN conventional is actually a syn blend anyway.

Pennzoil's Dexos Blend should work well in that application, as dexos is designed with DI and turbo in mind. the Pennzoil blend is at least 50% syn.

Another alternative is to look for cheap $20 synthetic oil specials, like the Havoline syn that AAP had last month, or the occasional Napa sales they have on their house brand synthetic (which is rebranded Synpower).

I would stick with Nissan's OCI recommendations while under warranty.

Seems like this DI/turbo combo has a lot of people guessing, including myself.
