Nickelback in the Detroit Game?

Yeah, the locals are restless over this choice...for good reason IMO. Like you say, plenty of local talent for the taking, why import marginal talent from across the border?

No offense to my Canadian friends...I love Rush, but Nickelback is NO Rush IMO.

How about Kid Rock?

Lump him with Eminem.

Saw him randomly in a bar in Nashville... started singing for us. It was OK.

Give me some of that great old motown sound!

Wow...some interesting comments on that article...lol...the Detroit haters always seem to have something to say.

"....Besides the rest of the Country would give Detroit to Canada if we could."

"...detroit is a ghetto place if yall would take lil wayne or 50 cents to rap they will be happy and maybe not kill each other that day"

"...all the economically-depressed, formerly employed blue collar workers of the suburban trailer park communities!"

"...You are Detroit, get over yourselves, you are lucky if anyone wants to perform there."

As a life long SE Michigan resident...it becomes pretty clear quickly why most of us have pretty thick skin at this point. Why do people love to hate Detroit so much?

Quite frankly, I can't believe this is a story. But then again, I usually turn the sound down and go do something else during halftime.

When I put something on my iPod, I don't first check and see if they're British, or Canadian, or Australian, or whatever. If I like it I like it, period. My favorite group happens to be Rush. Shockingly,... I was born and raised in the good old USA, and don't harbor any animosity toward anyone born anywhere else.

It's not about animosity. Its about the fact that there are so many great sounds that came from Detroit, it's just a shame that one of them isnt playing. its just something that I'd had preferred to see/hear.

Maybe my post was poorly worded...my complaint and the complaint of most others isn't the country of origin but rather the multitude of more appropriate choices that could have been utilized. Heck, if it were Rush, I'd be in hog heaven...I'll be at the game and to see Rush at half time would have been awesome...I just simply cant stand Nickelback and their derivitave, same old same old.

Rush are baseball guys anyway though...lol...they dont like football.

Maybe hockey...

ha ha ha, yes, and I agree, it's not animosity... I guess I shouldn't comment because unless it's a few particular acts I'm turning the sound down anyway.

Since cars are measured as having North American or Other content, wouldn't Nickleback qualify as domestic under the same rules used to measure "domestic" content of cars?

I couldn't resist.

Seriously, Rush are huge baseball fans at least I know Geddy and Neil are, not sure about Alex. Geddy collects all types of baseball memorabilia. I remember on the Signals tour he sang "the freedom of baseball" during Spirit of Radio instead of the "freedom of music". Always thought that was neat.

Foo Fighters busted into "Tom Sawyer" last weekend at the Edmonton show. After about a minute they quit, with Grohl saying that they can't be playing songs that are better than their own. I don't know Rush real well, but that song sounded great live, as did their "In the Flesh" cover.

As for Nickelback, this is pretty funny:

No offense taken. You should see the grief they get up here. We even have DJs trash them and apologize for playing their music before or after playing it, even calling their music things that wouldn't pass the censor filter here.

In fairness, they haven't got a really bad sound, just that everything they produce sounds the same. And no, they're definitely no Rush.

If you guys want, you can have them, and take Justin Bieber at the same time. You already have Celine Dion on a semi-permanent basis. We don't mind at all, really!

Hey, I am pretty sure that you will not offend us Canadian music fans. Nickleback is a joke to most of us and wish they would just go away. Rush are gods to me and many up here. The Tragically Hip are a close second. To be honest, they should use some local Detroit artists for the half time show. Detriot has put out there share of musical talent.

You Betcha! I saw these guys at the Motor City Casino not too long ago (Originally the Laredos out of Edsel Ford High School):
BEFORE

AND NOW

I hate Nickelback - Fake rock. (just cheap pop sung by people with greasy hair and pained expressions playing a simple 3 chord guitar part, to make it seem 'rock;)

All 13 yr olds think they listen to 'hard rock' when they listen to NB's garbage - with deep lyrics like 'i love your pants around your feet'
