My local Toyota dealer charges $8.99 for the Toyota brand oil filter for my 2006 Sienna. My local NAPA charges $12 for the Gold filter. The local [censored] tire has Motomaster or Fram for $6.99 or $7.99 for the Quaker State Purolators. What a surprise when my local Carquest charged me jobber rate for the Wix made and Napa Gold equivalent Blue filter for my Sienna ($5.49). The manager told me that I will always receive jobber rates for filters. Finally, a Canadian can get a top of the line filter for US like prices. No more paying more than double for a Wix.

We have always been stiffed by the prices of many things, including oil and filters. When I visit my parents in Virginia, I always grab some NAPA golds and have never paid more than $ 5 or 6 US for them. For what Americans pay for a Wix, we pay for a Fram.
Honestly, I don't understand. Makes no sense to me. Unless of course the cost of doing business there is higher.

I live in Keswick as well, where abouts is Carquest? I wonder if they have wheel bearing hubs for my pick-up cheaper than Napa does.
It's on Steven Court in Newmarket, just off Mulock Drive west of Bayview. I don't know about other parts but I'm getting Prefered Customer prices on my first visit. In 5 years of frequenting Action Auto, the Keswick NAPA store, I've never been given any discounts.

Wix has a filter plant outside of Cambridge, Ontario so I don't know why NAPA charges so much. Wix branded filters are hard to come by here. Only way I know to get them retail is via Carquest or NAPA.
I thought they closed the Cambridge plant?I order my Napa Golds from Fleet Filter.com ($3.95 for my oil filters) and have it sent to a American address.Get enough for one year and,do everything above board at the border,and still come out way ahead!
I actually called Affina in Cambridge to see if I could purchace filters there and was told that they are only a distribution center and that no I could not. I got Wix oil and air filters for the G6 on Thursday at a local parts store. I payed $9.19 for the last NAPA Gold and got the Wix for $5.63. The Fram at Walmart was $4.96 I think, when I was in there today. So ya, it's easier to understand the Fram issue when it's the same price.
Walmart doesn't list a part# for the air filter but I know I've paid about $30 for a NAPA Gold and got the Wix for $17.35. Unfortunatly they're only open weekdays, so if I don't have a day off I guess I'll have to send the wife! I'll see if the price varies there depending who's on the till like it does at NAPA.

Try Car Quest Blue oil filters,same Wix filter as a Napa Gold.If you are going to purchase a bulk quantity like 6 or so the guy at Napa might give you jobber rate, which is a few bucks less than retail...ask him.The Quaker State filters at Canadian tire are Purolater made.If not Motorcraft brand from the Ford dealer might be a bargin also ask around.Delphi makes G.M. stuff so there's another alternative.Fram is cheap and easy to get and thats their marketing plan...cut one open and you'll be doing the above suggestions.

NOW, at least here in the States, the list is what the list is and the trade discount depends on the discount that the chain got in their volume purchase. It skews the list/net price from any formal format.
Retail for the same filter should be somewhere around $13-$15.

cool I was gonna drop by a carquest to find out how much the blues cost for my honda's.

Actually Gary, the list price for the Blue Sienna filter was 9.95. I paid 5.49. The list for the NAPA gold for the Sienna is 11.99.
The $9.19 for the NAPA in my earlier post was the list price, can't remember if that included extra charge for less than a carton or not. The Wix was a list of $8.65 and they charged me $5.13 + 50 cents for buying less than 8.
I think my issue at NAPA is more about employee's not being able to give me the discount than anything else. And that apparently the other guy's Wix branded filters are sold cheaper than the Golds to begin with.
