Did anyone watch the senate hearing on webcast today? I was tied up with work stuff...

Some news reports out there that there is now a death allegedly related to a defective Takata air bag in a Subaru in Arizona circa 2003 (one report says it was a 2004 Subaru - so new).

Also if you have a car involved, you can find the actual dealer procedures (TSB) on the Office of Defect investigation website. They are poorly titled, but there is some reading if you have one of these cars and want to find out more.

Airbags are the reason my mother cannot drive most cars unless they have telescoping columns and/or adjustable pedals. Offhand...she could safely drive my brother's truck, my Dakota, my Cherokee, or my wife's Metro. If the airbag in any of those exploded, she would be decapitated.

500 lives a year saved. I'm not so sure how great of a safety device that is. Seems like a better designed car, better training, and maybe even better belts would be money better spent than an air bag.

I know I don't feel any more or less safer in my car with it's multiple air bags than I did in my car with only seatbelts. The most important thing is that you buckle up.
