Anyone who played football knows it's not good for your brain or health. The first hit teaches us this.

I think people always knew it was bad. But I don't think they knew it was CTE bad.

Head protection is great, but at the end of the day, the human brain can only take so much of a full stop with immediate reversal. There is a limit. You can protect it all you want from the shock of impact, but the result of coming to an immediate stop and changing direction will still be there.

It's not that they never knew that it was bad, but they never thought that they would be LIABLE for it.

It was simply part of the game, and the participants went in willingly....and "aware of the risks".

The world of liability has changed around them...

Well around US in general...it's no longer acceptable that dying at work is part of being a coal miner, black lung and silicosis...shift patterns designed by psychologist to minimise harm.

I think the syndrome changed too. Perhaps they could have dodged this whole thing if it were the "obvious" result; aches, pains, etc.

Suddenly wanting to murder your family while baking a cake is too far above what one would consider reasonable consequences for an athletic sport.

CTE is ultimately the log that hit the dam and caused it to burst.
