I recently did an oil change on my fiance's 2000 Honda Civic, non-Vtec, and used NextGen Maxlife 5w30. The car now has around 78k miles and in the almost 5 years I've known her, it has had a very loud valvetrain. I haven't been in it for a few weeks until tonight and wow, it is noticeably quieter. She says it runs so much smoother as well. Funny thing is I was running some older SL Maxlife in it in the change before this but it seems the SN formula has done the trick.

Thumbs up for NextGen! Just an FYI for everyone.

Maxlife 5w30 (SN) actually made my 97 civic, with the same D16y7 motor she has, louder than it was with the 5w30 PYB I normally used.

had a 97 Altima with 195k on it that had tons of timing chain rattle. mobil super 5000 put it to rest permanently, without having to replace the guides.

I'm seeing similar results with my wife's 00 Civic. Ive only known the car for a little under 2 years but it's been loud for as long as I've known it. It's been driven maybe 100 miles since the OC and I've already tried to start it when it was already running once, not sure if my wife has or not, she'd never admit it if she did.

She says now it's as quiet as when she got it in '04, if not quieter. No placebo effect, either; she didn't know I even did an oil change and asked me to look at it because it sounded different.

FWIW, the back of the MaxLife 5w30 jugs say ACEA A2/B2 performance level, no A1/B5.
