Lets dispel the contention that he "DESTROYED" THE HIS ROAD once and for all. He cut a groove in it, maybe an inch or so deep for 15-20 feet or so. Thats all. Some here make it sound like its horrific damage. No way!

As far as his "interest", the only motivation was just FUN. It wasn't about the road at all. For cryin out loud, even IF was a public road, FAR MORE damage is caused on a regular basis at random times by the average motorist or trucker. I see heavy equiptment gouge the pavement often here. WE DON'T PANIC!

Have we reached the point where everyone goes judgmental when someone has a bit of fun? In the grand scheam of things, it was totaly harmless. Some people need to lighten up, severely!

Mythbusters busted the myth that a tire will catch fire from simply doing a burnout.

I think Mythbuster's test specified regular street tires and they used a much less powerful car. The Vette may have had track tires, and we know that rubber burns, so it's certainly not impossible for hot melted rubber to ignite.

I don't get it. If you think you have a powerful, fast vehicle go to the dragstrip and produce a time slip instead of ruining a road, raising everyones insurance or killing yourself.

wow-- all my years on bitog (actually since around '02(?), but lost my first user name), I don't think i've ever been yelled at. this is a first. how about including the full quote so everyone can see that I also sympathize with the OP? at least that would be fair....

I like this one. He burned out then tires found traction then he flipped. lol

He burns out at :10 then flips at :13 its a :28 second video. He was ok, just a dumbcensored.

I also agree that the only "damage" to the "private" (?) road was a little grind mark as if the wheel was a circular saw, the tire asphault mark stayed in one spot so it is technically "damage" but then again i probably damage the street that much when i throw my glass beer bottle in it. The damage certainly would NOT be noticed and is AY less than a naturally formed pothole from the seepage of water and expansions of ice. I think that aspect is truly overblown here., and not even valid since it is a private road. Those are my thoughts on the matter.

Some here strike me as the neighbors that cal up the police if they see someone that has been lost driving around their home for more than 5 or 10 minutes. I lived in an apartment complex where an illegally parked car was there for 5 minutes and the tow truck was called and the person that parked it there to get something from a roommate's room (this was college) came back to see the tow truck driver halfway from their tow truck with the hooks to their car.. and they hooked it up anyways hey didnt let them get in their car and drive away.. i dont know how that was resolved but they ignored the carowner returning to their car and hooked it up AFTER the car owner was at the car ready to get out of the spot. (They also blocked him in the spot with the towtruck.) So, yeah, its petty.

yes i definitely think that Vette had the HP and tires to smoke'em HOT (tires didnt POP the engine seems to have overheated too?) but it happens at 1:30 on the video halfway through Page 2.

Nice LOL

At sdac they get a bleach pit and have a burnout contest at the host hotel and they also have nitrous rental they do burnouts with and run it on drag day, they did a CTS and 300C .
