I'm not for sure but if the Pilot is the same as my CRV (I think it is) I can go 10k and still meet the warranty requirments. 10k conditions or 5k extreame. Agreeing that oil is a little pricy though. (personally I never go more than 5 or 6k even with expensive oil)

I like the Mobil-1 XW-30 wieghts in my Hondas as it's been discused here before they are a bit on the thin side of the 30W spec anyway. Not far away from the 20W which is called for.

I have had great UOA's on my Hondas using Schaeffers 5W-30 but they now have a 5W-20 that I will start using on my next OCI. Schaeffers and a little Lube Control is a pretty hard combination to beat.

I'd run the Amsoil 5w-20 if you plan on changing oil every 7500-10,000 miles. The wear protection will be excellent and fuel efficiency will be 2%-3% better than with the significantly thicker (HT/HS of 3.4 Cp, vs 2.7 Cp) Amsoil Series 2000 oil.

I've run this comparison test in one of my vehicles....

Thorn,

We have a 2003 Honda Element, which has the 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder engine. My Honda dealership offers the full line of Castrol oils, both conventional and synthetic. The Element calls for 5W-20, but the dealership is using 5W-30 instead. It is a bit thicker and they said that it is easier for customers to find 5W-30 oils in stores, compared to 5W-20. They told me that the 5W-20 and 5W-30 are pretty similar. We've been using the Castrol GTX 5W-30 and everything is O.K.
