Hi all,

There is a bewildering amount of info and knowledge represented here!! I have been using the search function for the past hour but don't seem to be finding what I am looking for. If it's already been posted before, my apologies and please help me find the old thread.

I am looking for advice on the best brands of commonly available dino motor oil (5W30 and 10W30 if it matters). Which ones are the "best"? Do the same manufacturers make more than one brand? Have there been any head-to-head tests of the various motor oils?

thanks!

For dino oil, most national brands that are API SM and ILSAC GF-4 certified are all pretty much the same (best that $$ can buy).

there's no head-to-head comparison possible, owing to the fact that no 2 engines operational conditions are exactly the same.

Kragen rebate shell and chevron dino are usually under $1 with rebate and 1.09 with sale price when offered at Kragen . PP syn is a $1 with rebate at Kragen this week- which nearly matches most dino prices.

The best oil is whichever one is on sale this week. Seriously. There are differences, but you'd be hard-pressed to notice them.

Always go fur sumtin' purty like dim brite yeller cans.

With many SM GF4 dino oils for under a buck, pretty much any Brand Name will do just fine.

People like to split hairs when comparing different brand names, they are all high quality.

Me, I like Havoline as I am Juan Montoya fan which is about a good a reason as any. So if you you feel partial due to any reason at all, then don't look back it is all just noise.
