Newbie 1st Post : 5w30 vs 10w30

Hi,

I think 5W30 has the energy starburst symbol. It probably gives better fuel economy. I used to use 10W30 in the winters and 20W50 in summer for my high volume, low pressure oiling 86 Jetta.

In your case, I would use 5W30 in the winter and 10W30 in the summer. Toyota has major sludge issues in their cars. If your engine is one of those, synthetic may be a very good idea.

I like amsoil series 3000 its a thicker 5W30 for diesels and gas engines as a matter of fact lastnight i did a change with a amsoil eao oil filter and go to 10k change interval then do a used oil analysis but since your under warrenty and plan on going sythetic find a good blend then after that go to a fully and enjoy your ride.

I'd definitely use 5w30.

I don't think Toyota calls for 5W-20 until the 2007 model years.
