New VW gasoline particulate filters

It's time to replace our 2018 Mazda3 and my wife asked about a 2025 VW Tao's. I'm aware of some of the problems they had early on. The 2025 models now have a regular 8 spd. auto trans vs the twin clutch and they claim to have addressed the piston ring fouling issues with a new piston design. They also increased HP by 20 or so without impacting fuel economy. Of concern to me is that they added a gasoline particulate filter. I can only assume the motor would have emission issues without it. Is this a bandaid for issues they can't easily (inexpensively) fix? I really like the size and and exterior styling of the Taos for a sub compact SUV/CUV but reluctant to consider it if it still has issues or creating new ones. What kind of maintenance issues would a particulate filter create? Is it something a home garage mechanic could deal with? Isn't it usually a integral part of the exhaust system?

Gpf's can last if no oil ever gets burned. If I had something with a gpf I'd definitely use an sp rated euro 30/40 after the factory fill and be changing it probably every 4k miles to keep those rings clean.

It's not a bandaid, it's just the on going evolution of emissions systems and I told members here 6 years ago they would be on gas engines eventually.

I recall hearing about that on TDI club, back when DPF's were just coming out. Some figured it was only a matter of time for gassers to follow suit.

Trade one emission for another. Less whatever DI reduces but more soot. Moving chairs around on the deck.
