the plastic inner core that backs up the filter media. i believe it to be a superior design to metal core with holes/louvers. no more double checking if louvers are open. What is E core? Sorry for my lack of education![]()

Almost-it doesn’t have the depth of synthetic media that the original pink media Ultra had, & the jury is still out on the can thickness/rust resistance of the Endurance (the Ultra/FPS & Titanium cans are thin & prone to rust). They are about as good as you can get for passenger car applications, though.seems like there is no leak anymore through bypass valve in flash light test?
This seems like a perfect filter
The OG Ultra always had metal end caps with a fiber seal on the leaf spring end, which indicates that pre-First Brands Fram knew leaf spring sealing could be an issue. Not sure the lower end Champs & PH Frams are really polyester, they seem more like a fiber/felt material. I’ve always been a fan of the older Ultras, but the rust issue has always been an issue, especially if the Sure Grip flakes off.As noted multiple times, the bypass valves themselves have never been the issue. It's always been the Champ Labs metal bypass piece seal to metal endcap seal area that shows the leakage. With the exception of those with OG polyester end caps all Champ use that design. And, recently a CL made virgin Super Tech ST3614 ecore c&p using polyester caps has shown leakage too.
We’ll need more c&p’s to know if the leaf spring is leaking at the end caps.seems like there is no leak anymore through bypass valve in flash light test?

IDK what FB knew, but I give credit to 'Fram' for using the gasket material on the OG XG seal area as well as the two ply full synthetic wire backed media. Clearly when they made the new FE, they didn't adopt the OG XG "Fram made" design, but chose current Champ Labs metal to metal. As for polyester caps on OG ecores, in the past that's the term Champ Labs used for them*. Afaik, material hasn't changed. In any case, not metal and one anecdote posted also showed leakage. Also only used lower/lowest tier CL filters use now. Flaking or not, no fan of cap wrench unfriendly 'Sure Grip'.The OG Ultra always had metal end caps with a fiber seal on the leaf spring end, which indicates that pre-First Brands Fram knew leaf spring sealing could be an issue. The E core of the plastic center tube of the filter. In some filters you have a metal tube with louvers cut into them but in E-core designs the center tube is plastic with square “windows” to allow the flow of oil while preventing the filter media from collapsingWhat is E core? Places where they salt and treat the roads with other corrosive materials does a number on vehicles. The whole underside of cars can be rusted like that filter.Wow. Since I live in sunny California without any exposure to salty roads, that is a foreign appearance. Is this rust occurring in warm weather climates too? Another argument to change oil/filter regularly. Screw extended intervals.
