I've since reverted to an earlier build, since the Anniversary update keeps locking up the OS

search the internet for build 1607, it's happening to a lot of people.

It seems to have bricked my Dell XPS12, but I haven't yet determined if it's a hardware problem or a software problem. My work laptop (a brand new Dell Latitude E7450) took it just fine. It hasn't made its way down to our desktop (Dell Inspiron 660s) yet. I keep Windows 7 on this Compaq laptop from which I type, and I'm beginning to be grateful that I did.

I have been reading here and there that this Anniversary update is wiping dual boot partitions, too. Be careful if you have any alternate OS installed alongside Windows 10, it seems.

One thing I didn't appreciate the Anniv Update doing, and this is on my work laptop were the update was "successful", is automatically removing some programs it deemed incompatible with itself. Fortunately, they were applications I didn't use. But it removed the DisplayDock application that I had on there for a brief time I was using an external port replicator, and it removed Intel's Wireless Dock application that Dell had pre-installed. If I was using a Wireless Dock, I'd be pretty miffed that it decided to take that functionality away, and without any warning whatsoever.

I'm not a Mint or Ubuntu user (I've tried repeatedly to like it, but I just don't). I'm not a Mac OS user (we've been there and done that). I've generally been supportive of Windows and what Microsoft has done with it (I've never had trouble with any version of Windows until now), but this latest update has finally rubbed me the wrong way.

My favorite OS? Probably Chrome OS or Android (which are, of course, Linux-based...but they work with the hardware on which they're installed).

That would be a big annoyance, and perhaps worthy of a class action lawsuit.

Maybe it was somewhere in the fineprint that a user accepted before installing?

I'm actually kind of glad I did not upgrade any of my machines to W10. I've been happy with W7, and I prefer it over Ubuntu, alas, it's mostly just out of habit and the fact that I know a lot more about W7 than I do about Ubuntu.

Does the "Defer Upgrades" option in the Upgrade settings help me avoid this?

My big annoyance is that lock screen, which folks say is coming back unless you have Enterprise edition (I and most other users have Pro edition).

I checked the Defer Upgrade option. Hopefully that will keep out the anniversary present until they decide to allow the lock screen to be disabled. From their fine print, checking this option still gives me security updates, just not all their fancy junk that overrides settings and options I have selected.

I use the calculator a good bit. Opened it this morning, and it is huge now. Takes up almost 3/4 of my screen on restore down. Maybe it's just my computer I don't know, but it is very annoying.

Duh...I can drag the edges to make the calculator work with screen size. Guess it all got reset during the update.

I have upgraded all 6 systems in the house to anniversary edition, one of which is dual-boot, and have not had any issues of any kind. I've been running 10 on all of my stuff since release, and haven't had any issues of any kind. Don't know what people are complaining about really. It's perfectly functional, better security than 7, and has DX12.

If it wiped out one of your multiple partitions, or automatically removed software from your computer (as it did one of mine), you'd probably be frustrated with it. I'm glad it didn't happen to you.

For what it's worth, our personal desktop computer upgraded to Anniv Edition tonight with no hiccups. Unlike my work laptop, it didn't remove any software from our personal desktop, so I'm glad about that.

It may not be an issue for end users but it is a big headache for me at my job. I don't want my users playing candy crush, using cortana or having access to the app store among other things. Also the interface change is a support issue, I realized this early and have only 4 users on 10 and I am thinking about re imaging them back to 8.1

The best part MS has done to Windows 10 is offering .iso's thorough the Media Creation Tool with the latest build so it's easier to do a fresh install and quickly deploy systems instead of waiting for updates that date back to the last system pack.
