Another sophisticated tunnel was discovered a couple of days ago along with 22 tons of grass and 873 packages of various drugs in uncut powered form which they stated amounted to less than a ton. US officials after careful investigation with the help of Homeland Security experts now suspect that Mexicans were involved in building the tunnel because it was the Mexican police that discovered the tunnel from their side of the border. The promised increased security that would never allow another tunnel to be dug somehow failed, again. Evidently the Homeland Security system can not detect tunnels that are below ground level, unmarked and have a hidden entrance. It appears that the Homeland Security solution to this problem will be to require that the drug lords get a building permit form the city of TJ before starting their next tunnel.

Homeland Insecurity is too busy dealing with law abiding working tax paying Americans. Can't expect them to go after real criminals. Easier to just make you a criminal.

I seriously doubt that requiring a permit is going to stop attempts at illegal tunnels from Mexico to the USA.

Sophisticated surveillance equipment using infrared technology and photo imaging along with sensors could be used to determine changes in the underground landscape. But at what cost?

IMO....the only way to stem the flow of marijuana into the USA would be legalization.

Just have Homeland Security post a sign, "Tunnel Free Zone" and that'll fix em. This kind of logic is working great for schools.

There's a link. Give it a try. Try Google for past tunnels and the adventures of chasing Mexicans with shovels and promises to keep us safe.

Homeland Security was able to find the US end of the tunnel after receiving directions from the Mexican police. Finally one Mexican policeman went through the tunnel and came out in a warehouse on the US side and called Homeland Security on his cell phone. I guess the Mexican policeman was lucky that Homeland Security did not arrest him for illegally crossing the border.

The Mexicans are experts at digging tunnels and they don't even have help from Cal OSHA. They've never had an accidental cave in and every tunnel has lasted long enough to be a good return on investment. Homeland Security has only been able to arrest the mules and never the masters.

Homeland Security has figured out that when a Mexican goes down a hole on the Mexican side of the border and climbs out of a hole on the US side that there is a tunnel involved. Our security is in good hands when we have people that can figure out problems like this especially when the Mexican police tell them that the guy is on his way.

Pssst, DHS forgot that they attended the ground breaking ceremony for the tunnel at the secret service's request. If you remember, the secret service was partying at the ground breaking ceremony with the gals/booze.

They sacrificed 22 tons of low quality dope while 22 tons of high quality 99.9% pure cocaine crossed the border in a different tunnel.

That or a wall, after all. If someone builds a tunnel, just put up a wall, since that at least looks like something is being done.

Or maybe extend the wall to great depth beyond ground level. Of course, with any barrier the question arises whether it is to keep something out or in, not that the two are mutually exclusive. And of course you will need plenty of these along a wall or fence:

Or something more modern like a Samsung-SGR A1:

So what do you have against gal's and booze?

Another tunnel found between Tijuana and San Diego? They found one in 2013 that was a whopper: "In 2013, a passageway that zig-zagged its way for a third of a mile between Tijuana in Mexico and San Diego in California was found to be so sophisticated in its construction that the authorities dubbed it a “super tunnel”."

Send Sicario's Benicio Del Toro down that thing, problem solved.

That's racist.

They're just honest folks looking to pick up a few extra pesos for their god fearing families.
Or perhaps the ladies are seeking 'reproductive rights' since President Felipe Calderón declared a 'war on women' in México?

Makes me want a yummy burrito for dinner though.

I see it now.

In case anyone else didn't notice, here it is: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/a2f1f9262...rder-california

By the way, kudos for linking AP instead of a partisan media outlet. Pretty refreshing for BITOG.
Sure "AP" where a halfwit once "reported" that streets in Florida cities would be flooded because during "Global Warming" ocean water would "expand". I'm sure a half a degree is all it takes.
