Just picked up this work of mechanical art:
Daytona.jpg

It's a 2wd 2500 shortened to allow a short bed and regular cab. Was built by a local diesel shop with an upgraded P7100, injectors, turbo, manifold, lots of stuff. They claim 500hp and it feels at least that fast. Its got a fresh change with Rotella 15w40 while i decide what if anything else i want to use. Engine has 220k miles but all new seals and no leaks. M1 TDT, and Rotella 5w40 are easy/cheap for me to get around here. I drive short trips of maybe 10 miles or less most of the time. Thank you and recommend away!

If it's an automatic-hope they built up the transmission! I've heard good things about Goerend myself-otherwise, some bigger tires & wheels would be a plus-those look like the 17s off the newer 3rd gens-285s should fit no problem!

Especially with those shorter trips.

Spoken like a true retired SOPUS employee!! Just kidding! I actually run the M1 TDT & Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme in my '06 in my sig-but just about any quality HDEO w/regular changes would make the Cummins outlast the truck!

It's a 5 speed with a dual disc southbend clutch. I don't dare launch it or anything as it grabs really well.

The rotella that is in there will do fine . For cold below freezing weather a 5w-40 would be better. That is a nice truck.

Why not give'r once in a while? I imagine you could roast the tires starting in 2nd or 3rd with that beast, if it was 4WD you'd have to worry about breaking stuff but I think you only have to worry about your poor back tires...
A buddy autocross's a 300ft/lb VW TDI and on the starts he's into second in about 2 car lengths...

Rotella 15w40

That is what Cummins recommends and I'd stay with it.

If real cold 20 F or colder I'd throw just a couple quarts of T6 in with the rest being 15w40

I'm jealous. A 2500 shortbed diesel. I was tempted to do that to mine when I bought it back in 2003. I talked to a place in Wisconsin that said they could do it for $4500. I didn't think that was unreasonable, but I keep finding other things to do for $4500. This year, it's a racing transmission for the Corvette.

I just switched my Cummins 24V over to M1 TDT. I think it has enough ZDDP content for wear protection of the flat tappets, and has good enough HTHS viscosity to get by. I mostly wanted lower viscosity for quick oil pressure rise during our cold Michigan winters.

We know you're kidding but that Rotella 5w40 is just such a great oil to go into virtually anything gas or diesel, new or old. Only something like a new Honda would I shy away from using a 40 wt HDEO, in that case there's the T5 10w30! (which I have yet to find for sale anywhere btw, but I know its out there)

Since I started running HDEO's (in gas motors) I'm sold. I'm more comfortable with the protection of a dino HDEO than most syn PCMOs. And comparing dino to dino, syn to syn the prices are so much better unless you wait for a blowout sale. The only downside is that most dino HDEOs (15w40) are a little on the thick side for winters here in a vehicle specing 5w30. So I have to suck it up and run a longer OCI with T6 5w40 or through the cold months. I hate waiting so long to change my oil, its like an OCI withdrawal syndrome lol.

Wow, I REALLY like that truck.

I'd love to hear a video clip of that thing at idle and then tearing the back tires off that beast!

Gotta love those of 12 valves!!! What year is the motor in that monster?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm quite happy with the truck. The interior is gutted for some major sound deadening. Under boost it can be quite loud. While its apart its getting some Infinity Kappas, JBL 10s, and HD radio. I think i'm going to stick with the regular Rotella 15w40 and a 3-4k OCI. I can get a 6 gallon box for under 60 dollars. Hard to justify 19.50 per gallon for the synthetic. I haven't decided on an oil filter yet though.
