New Truck - Change fluids early? Diff/ps/brake...

No to all of the above.

There will be some fine bits of metal in the differential, but there is no reason to change it at 5,000 miles.

On my Ranger, I changed the factory differential fluid at around 55,000 miles. The factory fill was Motorcraft 80W90 with a recommended interval of 150,000 miles. Yes, 150,000 miles. The fluid actually still looked very good at 55,000 miles. There were fine bits of metal on the fill plug and a little varnish on the gears, but once cleaned with brake cleaner everything looked perfect. YMMV, but 5,000 miles is very early, even on the factory fill.

I wouldn't bother changing the other fluids until at least 30,000 miles.

Actually there are SAE studues that were run on class 8 differentials which are for all intents and purposes are the same find that changing out the oil on a new or rebuilt differential at around 2,000 miles then going to the mfgs.recommended oil change interval will double the life of the component.

I ordered the Amsoil gear oil for my diff, finally got around to changing it today. My Tacoma has 14k on it now, bought it used so I wanted to change all the major fluids, decided this first time around it would be synthetic, and I went with Amsoil.

Not surprising, the gear lube looked real good, but there was a pretty big chunk of metal stuck to the drain fill magnet, as well as quite a bit of fine metal particles.

Bottom line is that I didn't have to change it this soon, I just did it for my peace of mind, that's all. Oh, and I'm helping Pablo feed his family :)

I would change it to be on the safe side. Probably unnecessary, but it's a great feeling to know you're getting that bit of assembly metal and whatnot out of there. I would change the transmission fluid as well.

heck no... less than 5000 miles unless u think it needs an oil change...

i would swap it to full synthetic if i had a new anything... since synthetic is better.

On my 06 I changed the MT and diff at 5K. With both whatever was in there looked like a greenish-gray soup. The PS I did at the same time.. it was more a dark red-brown color. The trans seemed to shift better after.. steering a bit quieter. When I do the next oil change at 30k-ish the G05 and brake will get done. Peace of mind since I plan on keeping the truck till the boy drives.

I can see it being very important on a vehicle that may go millions of miles, but many common passenger vehicle axles are capable of many miles with little to no maintenance. I just don't know if it is essential to change the fluid on his truck so early. Whether he changes it now, or at 30K, or at the manufacturer's specified interval, it's probably good for 250,000+ miles if it is a common Ford, GM, Dana, or Toyota axle. No harm will be done by changing early though.

When my truck gets to 5K miles, I plan to go to synth trans, diff, and engine oil, but I'll leave the other fluids alone.

I would change out the differential and transfer case fluids to a 75w-90 synthetic at the 5k service. Differentials tend to produce a lot of debris during break-in. I would leave the rest of the fluids alone though.

Replace PSF early. I have dealt with many new Toyotas that call for Dexron type ATF in the power steering system. However, they use something that clearly isn't PSF. After about 10,000 miles, dark colored junk sticks to the P/S reservoir and dipstick.

I have used M1 MerconV and Valvoline Dexron VI and I was pleased with the results.

Toyota factory brake fluid tends to last a long time, so don't replace it early. You would only be throwing money away.

My 2008 Nissan was built in America, sourced from parts and raw materials from around the world. You're welcome

This makes me think of Ford commercials that had a "Buy American" theme, which is funny because the right sized Ford for my dad (Fusion) was built in Mexico.

EDIT: so he bought a Pontiac G6 that was made in the USA.

Mexico is part of North America and part of NAFTA.
