Finally caved and decided it's time to get out with the old, cumbersome, HF holder and somewhat accurate gauge. I will say once the holder is tight, it does hold it's position and is sturdy.

That setup served it's purpose, but I did use my smaller but nicer Starrett 81-241J towards the end after the other gauge was acting up.

Now finally I understand what the hype is about with the Noga...not sure why I waited all this time.
I went with the DG 6160 and FA 1400 2SM metal holder.

Also a Mitutoyo 2358A-10 gauge with .0001 graduations and .0001 accuracy for the first 2.5 revolutions then I believe. 0008" after that. Much nicer to be able to "zoom in" between each .001.
