New tool thread

I got me-self a GM fuel pump alignment tool (ala OTC 6710) by making one. But hey, it's a new tool for me now that I cranked some handles!

More detail here if anyone really cares:

I use some sort of contraption that I found on the junk pile when we moved onto our previous acreage. I think it was back in 2012. I snap a pic layer today. It works so I kept it. I keep it in our 6 horse but should really keep one in our 3 horse.

Harbor Freight to the rescue with cheap aluminum wrenches I'll probably use 2x a year, if that. I have a major plumbing project coming up in a tight space though so these will be very helpful. After that, I hope not to touch them for a looong time!

24" $28
18" $18
14" $13

They sell auto-adjust drums for trailers but I've never trusted them. I fear they either seize up and don't work in which case why bother, OR they overtighten and weld a race to a spindle leaving me stranded. I have NO reason to think either scenario is likely except Murphy's Law :D ‐‐ maybe aka paranoia

Picked these up for my home tools collection. I have a Snap On 4 way wrench set in fractional sizes at work and I had wanted metrics for home. There are no Harbor Freight stores in this state, so, while I was near one, I picked this stuff up. I'm happy with the 4 way wrenches and the set was about $60. Snap On is nice, but for my at home use thier equivalent set for $400 is a bit steep.

BTW, it turned out that according to The Internet, Snap-On's own site, and most major search engines as well as Ai's - the above tool (Snap-On Macpherson Spring Compressor - AW91) simply doesn't exist 😇
Nothing on it. Nada.

It does however show on FB Marketplace, historically, pops here and there on a semi-regular basis (there's even one currently for sale on Craigslist Boston).

It took me to get to a Russian search engine to be sent to Google's own patent listing page (which Google wasn't able to find), to get the patent document for this thing. Which is precise, but not a manual (although it can become one).

Spoon for trailer brakes?
I remember the time when I about 4 of those things, there were a lot of cars in those days that still had 4 wheel drum brakes. The spoons were all different size and shapes. I probably did more drum brakes than I had hot dinners, Auto adjusters worked fine as long as you replaced all the hardware and didn't mix up the adjusters, one was left hand thread the other side right.

Speaking about drum brakes...... I should do an inspection of the trailer brakes on our horse trailers. Then I have to check the rear drums on my beater 2002 Sunfire. One locks up really easily, causing the ABS to kick in.
