New (to me) car! '06 Jetta TDI

Meeting a guy in the next town over who has 19 (nineteen!) Rabbit Pickups / Caddy's in his yard.

So with luck one of them is in good enough shape and I'll just pull the engine out of the Jetta entirely next week.

Well I made a mess. 4 hours to get the clutch out. Going back together tomorrow.

Shocked I've not seen this thread before!

The Jetta was called the Bora over here. Up until a few years ago, manual Golfs & Boras with PD engines were EVERYWHERE. They've dwindled off though, like everything from pre-2010. I'm still convinced that cars released from the mid 90's to mid 00's were the best era and it's been sad to see them all go away.

Changing the engine mounts on our T5 absolutely transformed it how the whole thing drove. Not only was there less noise and vibration from the engine, but even the gear change quality was totally upgraded.

Had an 06 and an 09. Both dsg and both at or near the top of my all time favorite cars. 09 was a bit more fun with more power. I wish diesel gate never happened. VW might have continued on with the TDI and have some of their current lineup with the option. Sad.

My buddy's wife has a Passat automatic and he has a manual Bug. Basic interiors, but the mileage they get is phenomenal. I changed out the engine mounts on the Passat when it started getting rough and like Mercedes diesels, new silicone filled mounts make a world of difference. Don't get cheap Chinese mounts, go OE or OEM from some place like FCP etc.

I went cheap Chinese on the mounts because I am still planning to pull this motor and transmission for a project.
