Not bad for $700. 198k miles, BRM w/ 5spd.

It's very dirty but got a new cam kit at 180k miles. Needs tires and typical mk5 stuff fixed, but overall I'm very happy.

Going to feed it (mostly) Jet-A.

Had an 06 myself that I bought new for MSRP at Suds VW in Bloomington IL when St Louis areas dealers were marking them up $3-5,000. I sold it in 2009 and bought a Ram 1500. Never had any issues and really enjoyed the diesel torque. What I didn’t love was the dual mass flywheel or whatever they had in it, it didn’t like to get going from a standstill without any throttle input. I think I averaged 36mpg around town and 42-44ish on 80 mph long distance trips. Enjoy.

That's a steal, OP! Check it for rust, especially behind the front fenders.

That VW-tex interior cleans out pretty well with the right stuff and some elbow grease. I had the BEW version of TDI in my MK4 and it served me well for more than 6 years over 140K miles.

What are your plans for it?

No plans really. I'll let FB marketplace be my guide.

Maybe I'll find a Scirocco and put the BRM in that 🤣

A rare steal on a nice beater in the current market.
It doesn't have to last very long for you to have gotten your money out of it.
Well bought!

Somehow my BEW never ate its cam. Weird.

Good luck. Somedays I really miss my TDi, it was the car I most liked (after the turbo upgrade), and sometimes wish for it back (but minus the rust). $700? quite the find.

Got an SMF clutch kit from RockAuto for $65, wholesaler closeout.

Can't beat that!
Nope!

You'll have to let us know in 100k or so... I did an SMF on my '04 Jetta at about 249k. Once over 300k I swear I had a bit of a noise from the transmission. I think I could only hear outside of the car (as found during... beats me, I recall removing the axles to reboot the CV's, and I must have noticed extra play in the transmission?), but maybe I could hear during decel also? not sure anymore. But it made me wonder, why did they use a problematic DMF in the first place? Made me wonder if I might have been prematurely wearing the transmission by using an SMF, extra vibration going into the transmission somehow.
