New (to me) car! '06 Jetta TDI

I'd rather a synthetic for turbocharger protection. But that oil is robust enough for great results. Just be nice during warmup.
I think I have some 0/5W-40 HDEO in my stash. I'm averaging 600-750 miles every other week at my new job.

There are synthetic 15W40 oils.
Not that I already own 😉

Delvac semi uses EHC base stocks …
No Delvac in the stash. Delvac1 15W-40 would probably be the fleet oil if I didn't keep scooping up deals

New RF wheel bearing installed yesterday. Apparently the last original. The PO replaced the other three corners. Not a bad job, only takes about an hour on this car.

Pressed in? I watched the job on my Jetta, it did not look like fun.
The fronts bolt in.

I take the caliper, caliper bracket, and rotor off together and hang them up, unbolt the ball joint, and pop the axle out. Then it's just four bolts to get the bearing/hub off.

Nice. I’ve only seen the pressed in ones on the MkIV.

Made a big mistake yesterday. The waste fuel can at the helipad I was at had about a gallon of water in the bottom. Didn't notice while adding it to the Jetta's tank.

Car made it ~500 feet. Luckily the tank was on empty before adding the contaminated fuel. I jumped the fuel pump relay to pump the tank empty then my coworker took me to get a new fuel filter and 5 gallons of diesel.

Oopsie. Good thing I'm a mechanic.

I feel your pain, I can empathize.
Got watered down diesel in my MB. It took a few miles to show up and then, luckily I carry a spare filter and swap out tools and that barely got me home. The old big can MB filters absorbed the water but clogged. Drain, purge blah blah blah...

So how many miles at this point. Care to share your MPG? Great little diesels.

You probably already know this since you're a Diesel car guy. One of the fuel additives that says water dispersant on it will take care of any little bit of water left in the tank. I've even used Power Services, Redline, and lately Hot Shot's EDT in the tank. I've even used Power Services in my home heating oil when I bought this house and it had water in the fuel oil tank.

I bought PS Clear Diesel and added it to the fresh diesel I put in the tank, then again when I filled up.

I'll run this tank pretty low before filling up again.

Finally have everything together for the clutch, going to start next Tuesday since I have the week off. Going to do the engine mounts and timing belt at the same time.

Between 36 and 41 mpg.

I did grab a few water test vials from work and keep them in the trunk now. 👍

I also keep a kit in the trunk with a new filter, a 1/4" ratchet, correct bits/sockets/extension, screwdriver, and rubber gloves to do an emergency filter change if I need it. I did need it once when I got a tank of bad diesel at a no name place.
