The oil wasn't really dark? On my Accent with Synpower after 3,750 miles that oil was black.

Very dark but not black.

Yup, overthinking. Over it now.

If you're really worried, run it 5k. No bid deal.

Regardless of what you run it at, be sure to cut and post that Napa Silver.

IF it was my vehicle, I'd be running a 0 or 5W-30 synthetic in it with 5K OCI's (to prevent known fuel dilution issues from causing havoc in the GDI engine and/or short trips) and a Fram Ultra oil filter (changing it every 10K).

I ran 5w20 (not exclusively) in the other 2.4 w/o issue. Sounded the same as when on 5w30, and never smelled of fuel. I'll keep my eye and nose on it though.

Another Sonata eh wemay? I think you'll be fine with a normal OCI, considering the miles and such. Of course, considering how we tend to be with our cars, spoiling it once never hurt, right? Loving the power out of that little 2.4 I'm sure

Very dark but not black.

Just for reference my Mazda's break in oil was dark black like petroleum after 7000km

if it had synpower at say halfway that engine is still spotless. My bestfriend has a 2014 optima, which is the same car. we have ran synpower every 6-7k in that car for the last 30k and it purrs and the engine is spotless. we got out the snake cam the other day and looked inside the fill holes on our cars just for giggles. ive been really impressed by how clean engines ive seen run on valvoline are. absolutely superb. keep using the synpower and don't sweat it. i bet that cylinder head still looks like new shiny aluminum casting on your engine.
