It started to snow here pretty good and wet snow too. My new Good Year Eagle ResponseEdge have been good so far. As about as good or better than the Traction TA's I had before which were also good in snow. Just thought I'd pass it on if anyone was considering these tires.

ERE are the best tire I ever owned. In snow, I don't think they are the very best, but definitely good enough.

This guy? Doesn't look sipe-ey, suprising.

Looks decently siped in the inner part of the tread compound (on par the the Yokohama Avid TRZ), but I really don't like these asymmetrical tread patters that try and do everything just a little bit good.

other than the solid "highway bar" on there, they look decently siped, though perhaps a slightly more open outer tread block would be better for snow?

I just put snows on my car last night...

my conti's have been good so far.. not much snow yet.. had a couple ice storms.

I need to get new tires on the other car for the spring.

Good Year Eagle ResponseEdge look interesting.

They are also very quiet, ride good and handle good in the dry and wet. Plus they look good IMO. They basically fixed all the deficiency my Traction T/A's had with noise, harsh ride etc without giving up much if anything anywhere else.

Plus mine were made in the good ol' USA and most likely in my home state where they sure need the work.

I wouldn't say they are the best tire in snow, but I had no problems driving yesterday on wet and slick snow. I never seen a Goodyear tht wasn't at least decent in snow. They get a good bit of snow and rain around Dayton where Goodyear is. And for any doubting Thomases you can go on Goodyear's site and see for yourself that Goodyear rates this tire's snow traction pretty high compared to their other tires.

Yeah, first year with just about any new tire is pretty good in the snow. In the past, I've had private label tires on vehicles that went through their first winter like animals and then after that, everything deminished quickly. I expect that your Response Edge will serve you well. They look like they have alot going on there!

Just looked at the reviews for tehe response edge at tire rack... seems they reflect some negativity towards the tire. If they serve well, please reflect so there.

Myself, I couldn't care less what the consumer reviews or Tirerack itself says about the Goodyears or any tire for that matter. As I've said before I believe Tirerack hypes up the tire they have the most markup on. And then the peanut gallery (consumer reviews) goes along with it. For one instances, they majorly hyped up the Traction TA's and scarcily mentioned its shortcomings.

I did not get my tires through Tirerack, but what would be the use of me to add in my postive feedback there anway? It'd be worse than saying a true and positive thing about GM on this forum. It would be drowned out by mostly nonsense. I have little use for Tire rack and their recommendations.

I'm not saying the Goodyears are the greatest tire, I'm just saying the tire worked well in my experience, and I'm giving my reasoning for buying them and recommending them. I've had other brands of brand new tires that had zero snow traction and other problems. My Eagle ResponseEdges aren't exactly brand new. I got them brand new early this year.

Tirerack itself, ok, agree. Plus, any new tire will be better, likely, than an old one...

But that said, there HAS to be some variability between tire models (forget make, Im not dealing with that here). Are the reviewers right? Well, some of them post after some number of miles, or at the end of life. Sure, you have to take the reviews with a grain of salt, but there is some reality in there.

And still, with a grain of salt, Im not seeing as much good with these as other tires... But lots of good on here... will keep my eyes and ears open, will ultimately be looking for tires for our VW and a friend's matrix at some point...

I agree with what you're saying. It's just after seeing Tirerack and most of its consumers repeatedly both agree that a certain tire is superior while another is inferior and finding from experience that it just wasn't the case (the higher rated tire had shortcoming and the lower rated tires did not), I lost all belief in Tirerack and its consumer recommendations. Eventually, I was able to piece together that it looks like Tirerack is hyping tires with the higher markup and the consumers reviews are just going along with it.

I know it seems a little implausible that the consumer reviews wouldn't point out shortcomings in a tire or praise a good tire, but I honestly never saw Tireracks consumer reviews doing that with say the Traction TA back a few years ago. Plus I've seen a lot of criticism of tires that worked very well for me and others I know. There's been many people who criticised Goodyears even way before there were so many choices or very many as good or better options. It's just one of those things you have to take with a grain of salt.

What I find with tire rack reviews is that all too often, people have not driven enough miles on a set of tires for its true colors to show. Obviously not an issue when people are buying a same model tire. I've found over the years, that just about every tire performs great for the first couple thousand miles and year or two. Time and extra wear will define a tire for me.

The michelin X-ones I have where great at first... about a year of wear on them and they became miserable in the wet.

I also find it incedulous that somebody poorly rates a performance tire on the simple fact that it wears quickly. Hello.. performance tire is supposed to be sticky and wear out quicker than a high mileage touring tire. Always look at the vehicle type and read between the lines.

Alternately, theres the group of people who, again, poorly rate a performance tire in the snow... Hellllooooo.... No where does it say a Cheater Slick is meant for anything but non-winter use...

Alex.

Well I'm just very suspicious of even Tirerack's consumer reviews. You would think that no one would buy a set of Goodyears or whatever tire just to unfairly criticize them. But believe it or not there are people who willing buy something just to trash it. Maybe it's therapeutic for them I don't know lol. I imagine someone who had or believed they had a bad experience is more likely to leave a review than someone who was happy with their tires and went merrily on their way.

All I know is my brother told me that he put 3 positive reviews for Goodyears on Tireracks consumer reviews and they didn't show up. Add to this Tirerack doesn't rate the tire very well, influencing things. Tirerack calls the ERE a "touring tire" and Goodyear lists it as a performance tire.

My brother worked in tire installation for longer than I did and he said he had more problems with balancing Yokohoma and Bridgestone. I also know a lot of idiots I've met trash Goodyears and while I'm not sure what their issue is, I know they didn't know what they were talking about.

And after buying tires that Tirerack and its customers both hyped and buying other tires that were low rated by them that worked better, I take anything on Tirerack and the consumer reviews with a huge grain of salt.

While we are on the subject of Tire Rack consumer surveys.

One of the things I've noticed is that many OE tires are rated poorly. This is partially because they do not perform very well - but I also suspect folks who have gotten these tires on a new car and are replacing them with something different because they were unhappy - well..... they are much more motivated to give a review than someone who was happy with the original set.

The net effect is that reviews of OE tires are biased towards the "Poor" side of the ratings.

I agree. I think the better OE tires might not do everything exceptional like tread life, but generally the better OE tires do many things decent and a few things exceptional like gas mileage and noise.

I just take all consumer reviews with great skepticism. Tirerack and others bias consumers to believe OE tires are always poor and that tire brands like Goodyear don't perform as well as the higher mark up China tires or what have you. And that's what consumer tend to believe and report. I don't consider consumer reviews to be very unbiased or objective either. It's too bad consumer aren't objective and unbiased because they would be a large representative sample.

These are what are on my car, they are very good. They do very well in the snow, and have a fairly quiet, and very comfortable ride. They ahve great grip dry too.

I think those are good tires. I think they are Goodyears top of the line touring tire unless I'm mistaken. They probably have a long tread life too. The ERE is in the performance tire class.

Just drove through the West Virginia turnpike in the recent snowstorm and the Michelin X-Radials on the van were impressive. They feel a lot more secure in the snow than even the Yoko W-drives on my Passat. I'll definitely buy the X-Radials again.
