My Sister got in an accident a couple weeks back and ended up with a fully loaded new Taurus for a rental. Wow what a NICE car!

My Parents had a 1989 Taurus that was really nice too( for the era )but nothing like this.

It had just about everything from leather to a back up camera and on and on. All kinds of goodies. Ride was very smooth and quiet, the engine had very good get up and go, and the MPG was awesome( she drove it for a week + on $12 worth of gas

). Lots of leg/head/butt room as well which is important to someone my size.

ONLY gripe I had was like almost all new vehicles these days it was a floor shifter with bucket seats. I prefer a column shift with a bench/split bench/40-20-40/etc... Just not a fan of floor shifters and consoles. Other than that really nice ride.

Reminded me somewhat of a Chrysler 300 in the look department.

These are expensive cars, but I see people spending 25K plus for a 4cyl hyundai sonata which I think is very silly. IIRCC some guy on here has a Turbo v6 SHO; Wonder how thats doing ?

Wait until the Taurus Interceptor police cars are retired (if there is anything left to them),those have to have column shifts as mandated by the cops themselves.

If they made that car in a wagon it would probably be my next car (like an actual wagon, not a hybrid x-over). The interior seems to be a huge step up over the previous version, and the chassis they pinched from Volvo is really solid. If I were looking for a big sedan, that would be near the top of the list. Funny thing, I think I've seen fewer than 3 of the new ones since they've been out, and every one was an SHO. Does Ford actually sell any of these that aren't rentals?

+1 on column shifters.

If they're so desperate to seem "sporty" why not use a dash shifter; not as much of a space hog as a floor shifter.

I will take my stick shifts on the floor, though. Column shifted manuals only appeal to me as a novelty item.

If I was going to buy a new car, I would probably order an Interceptor Sedan. (Its not a Taurus Police Package; Ford gets really upset if you call it that.)

Good to hear! I get a pretty skewed view of auto choices around here, and I don't see many sedans of any type. If I didn't know better, I'd think the Outback wagon was the world's #1 selling car...

Same here in this area too. I drive a lot and see a new Taurus about once a week. I really have to wonder how many they're selling, certainly nothing like what the Taurus sold in the late-80s and early 90s.

One of the things I do not like about the wifes Taurus ia the boxed in feeling you get because of the shifter and column.

I am with on that one...I have seen mabye 3 Tauruses around here.

Rare site around here.

Its a small market niche its going after(V6 sedans). Also coupled to a name that past history does not have market of current one.

Even Honda/Toyota/Nissan have limited sedans sales with V6. Hyundai gave up.

SHO is great car to drive but not sure about that $40k price great.
