Just a question on the New box look ST filters. I opened up one and looked at it yesterday...(ST3887A) looked decent, I think it was an E-Core, just wondering if anyone else uses it and if it's a decent enough filter to do 5k runs with Hav/Chevron/Tropartic.

They are serviceable. But they are also #4 when I go looking for an inexpensive filter. First three I look for are Premium Plus, AC Delco or Motorcraft for $3-$4.

I don't think you would have any problem using Supertech filters for 5,000 miles, they are well made filters IMO I just think that people are weary of them because they are so cheap in cost.

I've been running ST filters on 04 v6 accord for 7.5 OCI, 04 oddysey for 7.5K, 05 maxima for 6-8K and 05 g35 for 5-6K. No problems at all.

I use them unless I've got something that I'm testing for longevity. They're fine for my 6month/whatever mileage OCIs.

this is the brand I try to get first...I have used Champion lab products in the past few vehicles and I have never had a problem...trust the a heck of a lot more than Fram made stuff

If it's an Ecore, it has a combination ADBV/bypass valve. It should have two sets of holes. The outer ring of holes pushes against the ADBV allowing flow to the outside of the media. The inner set of holes presses down on the bypass portion of the same piece of material and shunts some of the flow to the centerwell. The modified the applications for GM products later in the production to eliminate the bypass valve ..which may have just be to change the end plate with different holes.
