Was cruzin' my WallyWorld additive aisle a couple hours ago and wa-la:

"New! STP Oil Stabilizer with more protection than other leading oil (protection)"

And I found on a PR newswire:

Petty Enterprises and STP(R) products have not only renewed their
34-year sponsorship, but Richard Petty will be back on the bottle of STP(R)
products. For the first time in 12 years, Petty will appear on bottles of
the new STP(R) Oil Stabilizer, a product designed to maintain oil quality
between oil changes.

It says on the bottle the protection is "ZDDP".

The bottle looks similar to the Lucas stuff.

It's priced $8.xx.

Does anyone know about this stuff...?

STP oil additive should have went out of business 20 years ago. If you oil is not maintaining "quality" between changes, then you are buying some really junk oil to begin with. Most if not all car makers do not recommend oil additives. Why start now with STP? This is right up there with SLICK 50 as being useless.

I think there are some threads on this stuff. More zddp and I believe it was not thick like the regular STP, so it may be worthwhile once the SLOB supply runs out at Big Lots. (Search SLOB in this forum)

Same here. And just by shakin the bottle it does seem alot thinner than the old stuff.

BTW. Anyone know what seal conditioners it has? It says it has them.

Yep, we spotted this stuff back in the winter. It started out in the $7-8 range but has come down to $5. Like Fram, it's an attempt to steal some of the Lucas action with it's gear oil-esque bottle.

Are you kidding me?

Do you know how hard it would have been for the crew mechanics to get those filters off if it wasn't for the STP? Broken hands everywhere.

Kinda sorta....Many of the "Oil treatments" you see are primarily leak/smoke stoppers and are thick oil loaded with viscosity modifiers. Lucas appears to just be high visc group I brightstock petroleum. However, some "oil extender" treatments are oil loaded with zddp and calcium.

Hmmmm I thought so, the price fits perfect to be just another oil treatment in a larger size, marketing tricks!

Yes, STP Oil Extender was in a traditional STP bottle and reasonable. Then they went to a Lucas-like bottle and jacked up the price.

I will be interested in this STP oil stabilizer stuff when my SLOB stash runs out. I had some of the STP 6000-mile Oil Extender. Nice stuff, but I never knew how much zddp was in it. Not thick like the STP Oil Treatment. Don't want thick additives unless so concentrated you only need a few ounces.
