I drive about 100 miles/day, with some stop and go. I would like to go 5-7k between changes. I can get 5-20, which is the suggested oil, in M1. I can also get motorcraft 5-20 blend. What would the suggestions be?

Thanks!

I use M1 5w20 with M1 filter in my Mazda 6 3.0 w/ amazing results, smoother operation and 2mpg better average, I would highly recommend that for your 5-7K OCI. That new Sonata is a nice car, nice powerful 3.3 V6.

3k under severe and 7.5k under normal. This, of course, assumes you use Dino.

I am very torn...heard great things about the MC 5-20 blend for the price, but I know how great M1 5-20 is as well.

My fiance just purchased a 2007 Sonata and it is dollar for dollar the best car in America. I could not believe the quality, engine performance, ride, looks, warranty, etc., for the money she paid. I will do her oil changes and, for her driving situation, I will give it Havoline 5w20 dino every 5000 miles (which will be about nine months for her). Synthetic for her is overkill and a waste of money.

Hyundai makes no such distinction at all regarding conventional vs. synthetic for oil change intervals while under warranty. (In other words, Hyundai owners who extend oil changes beyond 7,000 miles are taking a chance with their extended power train warranties in the event of oil-related failure.) That said, I believe your choice of ConocoPhillips-made Motorcraft Premium Synthetic Blend is sound. I'm on my second go-around with Phillips 66 TropArtic Synthetic Blend* (virtually the same formulation at a considerably lower price) in my '03 Sonata's V6 and will have a used oil analysis run at the end of this three-thousand mile cycle. There's been no noticeable drop in oil level on the dipstick and my fuel useage in highway use with the A/C full blast still comes in at over 30 mpg. I believe you'll find the Motorcraft similarly impressive.

*The only "bad" thing about the TropArtic is its virtual absence in normal retail channels for the 5W-20 viscosity Hyundai recommends for use in 2006 and later models. My '03 owner's manual recommends 10W-30.
