I just bought a new Toro single stage snowblower. It has a B&S 2-stroke engine. The Manual for the engine is printed in China. Today I'm going to pull the covers off and try to confirm if the engine is actually made in China. If it is, I'll be disapointed and I'll try hard to remember why I should buy American brands.

Cool, I didn't know B&S 'made' a 2-stroke, but I guess they've got to with Tecumseh being out of the game. This must be your engine: http://www.briggsandstratton.com/engine_power/details.aspx?pid=88 I'm sure it will be fine for you. I do love the 4.5hp Suzuki 2-stroke in my older Toro power curve thrower, but that engine has been out of production for some time now. FWIW, lots of Briggs stuff comes from China now.

If you just bought it, you can always bring it back if you're disappointed and not what you thought.

What model single stage is it?

Not much call for snowblowers here. Last snow we had was on the 13th of March 1993 and it did not build up on the roads. Just enough to cover the lawn some.

It was soon melted away.

Does Tecumseh still make small engines?

I too, have an older Suzuki powered, 2-stroke Toro Single Stage Power Curve Snowblower. However, mine is rated at 5 HP. Bought mine used a couple of years ago for $50. Best $50 I ever spent. It has easily spit out wet and dry snow up to 10 in deep. It also easily ate through the mountain of snow at the end of the drive made by the snow plow.

If you are unhappy with your Chinese made Toro and find a used s model like I have (Toro CCR 3000 GTS), you won't regret it. Otherwise, that Ariens 722 model also sounds like a winner.

Mine's a ~1994 model year Toro CCR 2000. Even at 4.5hp it kicks butt pretty well. It's easier on the body than my 2 stage machine, that's for sure.

My FIL gave his 1993 Toro CCR2000 and that thing works great for snowfalls under 8". The Toro always start on second pull which great for a 2cycle motor. But I still use my 8hp 2 stage MTD snowblower for the bigger snowfall.

Sorry for any confusion, the snowblower itself is made in the USA, but I suspect the B&S engine is made in China.

JetStar - have the exact model from 2006 - CCR2450GTS. Don't know the origin of manufacture but you bought yourself a good one.
