Hi

I have noticed that the search facility has changed. It has some benefits, however I am having difficulty in finding old posts that had valuable information.

The new search facility when searching a subject lists all the replies received in one title.
Eg search Mobil 1 15w50 group 3 started on date “xxxx” will list the replies sent to this topic dated “xxxx” ie there are some 20 replies dated 18/11/2006.

Instead of listing all previous topics posted by new topic starters with seach title heading that are available within a date range requested.

The old search facility listed the topics with starter names only once only. It is frustrating when I’m trying to find a subject matter and all you get are the replies within the same topic.

I am using the search facility incorrectly ?

Help !!!!

AGREE!

I was "slammed" several times with arrogant "try seaching" comments and "this is old stuff" and so on.....I was so PO.d that I took it personally and started taking everything that followed from certain people personal...oh, well. My bad.

It takes 2x-3x as long to weed thru every single post verses finding the topics of interest.

I have "searched" for a way to change the display setting for search but have come up empty.

Have to agree, the new search function is severely lacking. Not sure what can be done to improve things with the current software version, but would appreciate it if a Mod/Admin could look into this further.

I hate the multiple hits for the same thread as well.

I'm not sure how much is configurable with this BB software though. Sounds to me like there aren't a lot of options. Has anyone PM'd Joee or Tony?

Firefox 2.0 has spell check and a bunch of other really awesome features.

This search features is worthless or nearly so. I've given up trying to find anything or do research.

How do you do it?

One might be forgiven the impression that there are the favored who have been granted continued editing privileges and then there are the rest of us troglidytes...

baloney Ray. go into he test forum (do a search) and you will find out how to do it.

It's pretty easy once you know to replace newreply.php with editpost.php

No...some of us are just using a cumbersome workaround.

Hit the reply on your post. Then go up to the URL field and replace newreply with editpost (.php? after it). Leave everything else there. Move the cursor to the end of the URL and then hit ENTER. Others don't have to do the "end of the url" thingy ..but that's what I have to do.

Guys, we had no choice but to upgrade, the old platform could not handle the traffic. It was either this platform, or nothing, so take your pick. I am sure that we will be upgrading in the near future, so hang in there.

Great advice - particularly in a thread detailing how the new search function sucks...
