I recently came into possession of some of these. Some of the boxes look like they were wet at some point, but the paper and steel brackets seem to be the only real victims of that. Gonna put them on eBay, but have no idea how to price them.
Any thoughts?

New in box should carry a premium. $75 How many boxes do you have?

I'd sell the water damaged ones either without the box or at a discount $50.

Considering this would be a display piece and I doubt anyone is running these or you can even get the replacement cartridges.

I saw a few threads where people are modifying a motor guard air filter for oil and using a roll of TP for an element. This looks about right for that size wide.

Scott 1000 TP should fit right in it, that’s what the Ralph Wood ones (which are modified MGs) use.

These M100's need 4 1/2" tall paper, they filter from the bottom up, Ralph Wood modified M30's filter from the top down, you can use 4" paper if filtering from the top down.

Interesting to note that these filters are the early production M100 with the screen, made in San Jose California, the second iteration is almost identical, but without the screen, I believe A310 has one of those, the last ones are made in San Leonardo California, you don't want to run the early type without the screens in place, the paper will plug off the return into the center tube.

My first Motor Guard was the new type with no screen. The demonstrating machine had the old type with the screen. The first time I changed the toilet paper I didnt see the screen stuck to the paper. The demo machine had a gear pump. When I turned on the pump I tripped the circuitbreaker for a row of flea market vendors.
For awhile Grand Auto Parts in San Jose California was selling the screen models for 12 something with hose and fittings.

One bad thing about the San Jose California models is they were designed to seal inside the core when most toilet paper had a 1 1/2 inch core

I normally use Great Value 1000 from Walmart. Its a little smaller than Scott 1000. Dont have to unroll as much. I set up a Flat head Ford V8 canister filter to take a full roll of 4 1/2 inch diameter Scott 1000. They origionally used Cotton. I have half a roll of VIVA paper towels in it now.

I was thinking of buying one of these filters but decided not to as the cdn dollar took a tumble and I do have two of the later M100's, how many does a guy really need? The seller sold all of them, don't remember exactly, but it was 25-30 or so units.

The San Jose California Motor Guards were pretty much useless unless you can find 1 1/2 inch core toilet paper. You might be able to save your used toilet paper cores split them and put them inside the bigger toilet paper cores.

Grand auto parts was trying to get rid of the screen types by charging 12 something for them. I was catching hell at the flea market. I was selling the later models for 29.95. It was I can get Motor Guards at Grand auto parts for 12 something. I thought they were bsing me. Motor Guard didnt like under pricing them. I was paying 19.95 as a dealer. The retired Boeing engineer told me how much it cost to make them with hose and fittings. About 7 bucks.

I liked the design of the Motor Guard a lot cleaner to service. Frantz was trying to sue them out of business. They were the only ones safe to use for compressed air. They went broke selling oil filters The bs stories about toilet paper breaking down in motor oil didnt help. They at first liked me selling them. When I asked them to send me 100 with no coating that was the last straw. Occasionally the coating will fail. The origional oil filters had no coating. Some Motor Guard enthusiasts remove the coating with carburetor cleaner. I havent had problems except with some gasoline filters. Ran a Toyota over 200.000 miles on gasoline. The coating lasted about a month with gasoline on the Farmall H. One customer sent me a picture of one on a transmission. He dealt with it. Probably carb cleaner. The filters were designed to use toilet paper not the expensive elements. Another problem.

The Australian Jackmaster is the best oil filter .you can buy new. Hopefully they can compete with the inferior but biggest name in toilet paper filters. The Frantz. I had to have one. Drilled out the orifice and used a Perma Cool universal 189sandwich adapter on the Pontiac Torrent.

I moved away from splitting used tp cores to used spent tape rolls, most electrical, hockey tape rolls are 1-1/2" inside diameter, peel off the outside of the roll for an interference fit, it's highly technical work...lol.

When those were new Motor Guard was in San Jose California. Motor Guard started in 1961. They were designed when all toilet paper had a 1 1/2 inch core. The good paper was 2 ply. 1 ply was loose wound.

The black M30 compressed air filters are easy. Dont need anything but a flat washer at the bottom with the firm shorter paper. I happened to have two flat washers 2 1/2 O D by 1 1/4 ID Tossed the plastic white seals. Reamed the flat washer enough to press the washer on the bottom. Put a 1/16 inch orifice at the inlet. Or better use a sandwich adapter. I use a Perma Cool universal 189 oil cooler sandwich adapter. There are others. Got several from Jegs years ago. Summit has them. The universal fits most small filters. They require a 3/4 16 thread filter. My tractor uses a Motor Craft FL1A for example.

The flat washer you put in the bottom of the Motor Guard M 30 is the toilet paper core seal. If it isnt a tight fit it will stick to the used paper and will be pulled out. Its a vacuum seal like my teeth.
