Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ALL!

I wonder if anyone knows of anything NEW for the upcoming year? Are there new lubricants, or products to be marketed by the Oil Makers, that will pleasantly surprise us?

For example, will Shell Oil, market their fine HELIX, line of oils, in the USA? Any new FUEL blends etc.?

When is Amsoil going to come out with a Group IV 5w20?

I've been getting great UOAs with the XL Group III so far but I'd be even happier paying an extra buck or two a quart and getting a "full" PAO basestock 5w20 with a similar additive package.

With all those Hondas and Fords demanding 5W20 you know theres a growing market for it.

that is a good question about the amsoil 5w20, i just realized the other day that amsoil did not have a regular full syn 5w20 only the xl 5w20

Elf is introducing a new synthetic. Elf Excellium Full Tech 0w-30. It meets Mercedes-Benz spec 229.5 at a lower price than their former product Excellium 229.5. But it still costs more than Mobil 1 0w-40 which meets the same spec.

I'm still going to stick with TropArtic 10W-30 synthetic blend and 3,000 mile oil and filter changes, with nothing added. You just can't beat it!

once i find a setup my engine likes i will stick with it. why change something that works.

Ray said it all, though Schaeffers is also a note,,,I have the Trop-artic in two of my car/truck and in wisconsin its been reasonably cold 0- and they seem very compairable in starting ability,,,,,BL

I suspect alot more 5w20 brands as most cars 03 and up are using them all year round and they seem to be holding up very well even in hot humid climates.

It seems the Castrol Syntec line is not the old Group III stuff anymore.
By now just about everyone on this board is aware of the 0w30 Castrol Syntec PAO/Ester blend aka GC.
According to this thread we might be witnessing some new developments on a much bigger scale.
Looks like Castrol is starting to reformulate the rest of its Syntec line in the similar fashion.

Hello Ray H,
With nothing added to the TropArtic, it will work good. But why not improve your performance with lube control and work better? You just can't beat it!

I doubt there will be anything significant that'll change in 06, except for may be a few boutique oils. The only developments or changes that I'd be interested in are those that affect low-cost dinos, as that's all that I and most people use.

I'll more than willingly stick to $0.49/qt Chevron Supreme and $2 Supertech or Purolator Premium Plus filters, changed every 6 months.

If someone asks me what oil they should run (provided that they buy oil only when they need it), Supertech 10w-30 dino and a Supertech Filter is a very good $7 combo for 5K drains. $5 for a 5qt jug of GrpII, API SM dino that is always avaliable when you need it is very hard to beat.

Good News!

I sent an e-mail to the Conoco web site asking if they would ever be coming out with a 0W 30 oil that could meet ACEA A3 rating.

They told me to look for their next European PCMO in 5W 30 (maybe 0W 30) that is rated A3, B3, B4 and maybe C2 and/or C3.
This, (or they, if more than one) should be coming out in the 1st quarter of 2006.

In my mind, it sure would be nice to be able to find a "stout 30 wt oil on steroids" with a high HT/HS in my neighborhood auto store. With GC (Green), you have to hunt for it. Exxon & Mobil 1 has too many bean counters too give the public the good stuff. Of course, seeing is believing. Or as they say in Missoui, show me...

The only GC that I know is still out is the gold. I've hunted for the (green) but was told that they don't carry that here anymore. The gold is still good, and is a 30 wt on steroids

Green GC is now Gold GC.
Nearly all of AutoZones that used to sell the Green now stock Gold GC that carries the same weight designation, conforms to the same or better specs.
The same basestocks with a revised additive pack.
