I'm not sure if this has been discussed before but I just remembered that I was going to post it.
I was shopping for some oil filters recently and on my way to NAPA I stopped by CanTire just to see what they had. I asked the guy if they had any filters NOT made by Fram ... and he said 'Oh yea.'. '... oh really ... ' is what I was thinking.
He showed me how all the new filters had a different Motomaster label on them. I took a quick look inside the shrink-wrapped filter and saw a louvered and restrictive looking core inside. It did not look promising at all. The label said 'Made in China' ... and I thought, 'OK, enough of that!'.
I got to NAPA and wanted to see the boxes for the regular and gold filters. The NAPA Gold and the old regular filters (in boxes, not in shrink wrap) said were either made in USA or Mexico ... but the NEW NAPA filters (not gold, and also shrink-wrapped) were 'Made in China' ... ummm what!?? A quick look inside was deja-vu ... it looked exactly the same as the Motomaster China filters.
Is anyone aware of this, or is this something that is only happening in Canada (or Ontario)?
