new motorcycle fees negotiable?

Can you haggle on paperwork fees and manufacturer freight charges on a new motorcycle?

Looking at a couple of mopeds, a Honda PCX150 and a Super Cub 125. I am noticing that the dealer wants 300 for freight on some models 600 on others, along with 300 in doc and title fees. This seems very steep.

I have never been to a motorcycle dealership, can these be haggled in the power sports industry? I assume the fee from Honda is non-negotiable, but what about the steep dealership fees?

The Super Cub is a 2024, since they didn’t have a 2025 model. The PCX is usually a slow seller too. I would just throw a OTD number at them and see if it sticks.

All of the above posts are the way to go. Out the door is your goal, keep talking the price you will pay and they figure it out.
My other thought was a 1 or 2 year old model used from a private party. No doc fees, freight, etc. A lot of these mini-motos have very few miles on them in marketplace listings.

I noticed that especially slow selling is the Trail 125 and the Dax 125. They have had the same ones in inventory for quite a while with a 500 price reduction. I do notice a ton of Honda Groms and Navis running around my town.

Any of these similar models using the same engine, etc, are reliable as a stone. I would absolutely consider a used model as there is always room for negotiation with a private party. With that said, dealers don't like to sit on inventory for a year, a lot of them play the cards close to the vest but when it comes down to it they love to get rid of the piece of inventory.

Just like their 4 wheel couterparts, motorcycle dealer fees vary from dealer-to-dealer. I recently looked at left-over 2024 BMW R12 Ninet's, and a dealer in Cali wanted $85 doc fee, in Illinois it was $285, and in Utah, it was $799<!>. And your best bet is to negotiate the OTD price, cause that's what ultimately matters when you're comparing the same bike at different dealerships.

Many car, bike, whatever dealers will have "fees" preprinted on the sales form he will use to work the deal.
Long before it was all on a iPad or a PC screen and was on paper a dealer may say its preprinted " we can't change that fee"
Okay so don't but if that "fee" is $300 then just take $300 off the offering price.
When buying a car I have called a dealer before even walking in the door and asked. Please tell me ALL your listed "fees" I will see on your sales order when I arrive to look at your car...

The TRICK has always been to get you settled on a price and then you are hit with $800 +/- fees you didn't know about, ALWAYS find out the FEES BEFORE TALKING PRICE!
I have had to say show me your blank sales sheet Mr salesman as me knowing your dealer fees upfront is the ONLY way you and I will go any further! You say that he will show you the fees than its all about the Out The Door Price ! ( Tax AND FEES Included!)

I think Honda over saturated the market with their mini motos. They have way too many, and they overlap each other. They had too many Grom’s for sale during covid when everyone and their brother wanted the new Trail. I notice my local dealers have tons of the Dax’s in stock. I guess it wasn’t a hit that Honda thought it would be. They need to bring over the ADV 350 and get rid of some of these 125 models in my opinion.

These were another one of those things that became sought after during the post pandemic time when money was like water. Make an offer and see what sticks. Out the door only. Dealers like to play the game of you looking at individual prices, it means there winning.

Check around other dealers as well - travel might be worth it.

I would also bet there are plenty of used ones around that were driven twice. Of course if people over-paid there likely its still worth too much.

I still want a CT90. Neighbour had one when I was a kid - he let me ride it a couple times.

I am witnessing that here. I looked deeper into my local dealer (town pop. 220,000) and they had no less than 4 Dax's and 4 Trail 125s. They all had a 500 dollar reduction on them. The young sales person quietly told me to please buy on of those as they can't get rid of them.

There are too many mini-motos with too similar of CC numbers, I agree.

I wish they still made something like the Honda Helix. 250CC is perfect IMHO.

The laws in all of the states allow dealers to charge a paperwork fee that is not subject to sales tax. The says if they charge a fee, they have to charge the same fee on all of their sales. So, when you are bargaining always keep the paperwork fee in mind, along with sales tax and license fees. Skip the extended warranty and put that money into savings and you will come out ahead.
