There was never a consensus that Mobil 1 Advanced Clean was better than Valvoline Restore and Protect. Mobil 1 Advanced Clean has great marketing but no proven results. However Valvoline Restore and Protect has endless accounts of resolved oil burning and cleaned engines. Mobil 1 Advanced Clean looks like a decent non-Euro oil option but inferior to Valvoline Restore and Protect.

Maybe they copied the Valvoline Restore and Protect formulation to make it clean better now.
I have two jugs of Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 5w30 and one jug of 0w20, and all 3 say Dexos 1 certified on them. I have to guess that the formulation is indeed changing due to a change in available supplies of certain petrochemicals due to the war. I can't imagine another reason.
I do remember after Hurricane Katrina, Mobil 1 had to change their formula for awhile for the same reason.
I wouldn't bank on that. Mobil 1 has quite a bit more shelf space at the Walmarts I've seen and even end caps and aisle displays with Mobil 1 products, and the AC bottles are on every one of them.
Most of the marketplace is not on Bitog, so with that in mind, I think that shelf space will come into play.
With that said, the small shelf space of my local Walmart that is dedicated to Valvoline Restore and Protect is usually wiped out...at least in the 5w30 flavor. I typically see one or two jugs of 0w20, so I think it's selling well, too, just not selling out.
The Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 5w30 was gone on the shelf when I bought it, but I was able to find it on the end cap and aisle display. They had LOTS more Mobil 1 in the store than all of the Valvoline products. That shouts that Mobil 1 is a better seller, any way you slice it.
I wouldn't hesitate to run Valvoline Restore and Protect. I just have never had any evidence that Mobil 1 was leaving my engines anything less than spotless inside.

Shell and Valvoline were quick to warn of supply chain issues - who knows what will be out there month by month …
The guy was asking about BITOG consensus, but overall you probably right, Mobil 1 has big brand name popularity that many average people may find attractive
We´ve seen many examples of high mileage engines driven on Mobil 1 over the years with exceptionally clean valve trains. Where´s the evidence that Mobil 1 is making engines dirty or causing stuck rings? Seems like all of a sudden with the appearance of Restore and Protect, everyone has shifted their perception.
My valve cover was off my 2018 Jeep 3.6 with 111,000 miles on it and the tech said it looked spotless. Unfortunately, I didn´t get to see it. Every engine I´ve ever run on a regular diet of Mobil 1 that has had valve cobvers off has looked that way, including a 2008 Jeep 3.8 with 196,000 miles of mostly vanilla Mobil 1 5w20 in it on 6k OCI´s.
I have seen pics that indicate ESP 0w30 cleans a lot and very quickly. So maybe they didn´t need to do much more than hit up the marketing department. The answer was probably already there.
ROTFLOL, Bitog consensus? I can´t remember that happening too often in the 21 years I´ve been around here. Although I do think Valvoline Restore and Protect is about as close as something could get to it.
had a 2007 Saturn with 114,000 city miles on it with mostly Royal Purple 5w-30 pcmo with around 4-6 thousand oil change intervals and Fram or Purolator cartridge filter , was also very clean with no bronze color inside when I changed the valve cover gasket,and cams looked like mirror shiny.

When you take a horse's blinders off, many freak out.
Keeping an already clean engine clean isn't the same as effectively cleaning an already dirty engine. Mobil seems to be making a claim of the latter, but haven't seen the proof yet like what's been seen with Valvoline Restore and Protect.

Almost 2 years on Mobil 1 Esp 5w-30 ( earlier PAO/Ester) version and it did nothing for the jammed rings on my Hyundai. It took Redline Performance Euro (Ester/PAO) to de carbon the rings. Where they could actually seal to the cylinder to stop my massive fuel dilution issue. That took 1,500 miles to loosen them up. The fuel dilution was gone. Now I use Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 to keep the rings un jammed, by running it as my winter oil.
